Just keep trying. I first applied to a First Group TOC in Jan '12. Got past the first sift and put on a 'holding' short-list. Passed DB Schenker pvt driver assessments in Feb '12. Applied to Northern, got through the online tests only to be told the position was no longer available. Applied...

Mine took a week from test to 'phone call saying it was ok. Probably depends on workload at the laboratory - I think I was advised it could take up to two weeks.

First thing I did on getting a job offer from a TOC was ditch my reserve liability. The Cotswolds vs The Middle East? No competition!

Interesting, so not only does the pay vary across TOCs, (obviously!), but the way in which it builds up is too. Assuming I'm not mad and didn't imagine the part about 80% on probation of course.

Just stating the facts in my contract. No mention of 'only' from me either.

I have heard - it may have been here, that once qualified drivers are on probation at 80% of full pay for two years, before moving up to 100% pay. Not sure, if indeed it's true, which TOC it was, or if it applied across all TOCs.
