They do, but it is well within sight of the platforms. I don't know about exact speeds, but they did seem to be going pretty fast when I was there a few months ago.
What is the customer saving?
Are they saving £35 per journey (discount off ticket), or are they saving £24 per year (cost of railcard)? I'd argue it is the latter (providing they are still eligible) and therefore the penalty should be proportionate to that.
glynn80 - please re-read my post. I am not talking about what is allowed under current rules, rather what people would consider fair, prevents fare dodging but do not disadvantage customers who thought they had paid the correct fare.
I was proposing that the customer would pay the full price...
Yes - that is exactly my complaint. I wasn't even allowed to use my confiscated ticket as credit towards the new ticket (which would have been more than just the extra third of the full fare, because of the discounts for offpeak and return on the original ticket).
I'm not interested in 'those...
Sorry. I'm not feeling very well, which I guess made me react worse both on the train and in this thread than I would normally.
No, this was my first journey since the rail card expired.
I don't use my railcard very often, probably only every 2-3 months, so 6 weeks isn't really that long.
Clearly the opinion here is that I am/might be an evil fare dodger and therefore deserve everything I get. I am of the opinion that I am a passenger who tried to do what was required (by...
First I'd like to reiterate that I'm aware that I was in the wrong, and am quite happy to accept a proportionate penalty for the crime permitted. Several of the responses seem to be of the opinion that I broke the rules and therefore I deserve whatever penalty the TOC/DfT/Government decide...
Agreed, but it is unfair for them to charge me 4 times my original fare for a simple mistake. It would have been cheaper had I got on the train without a ticket at all!
It'll be £26 soon anyway...

I was told I couldn't buy a new railcard, although...
Hi,
I was on the return leg of a FGW Brighton - Bristol journey today, with an off peak YP ticket I had bought for £28.40. When my ticket was checked after leaving Bristol the conductor (not particularly politely) pointed out that my railcard was out of date and proceeded to charge me £42.50...
The link given was a bit unfair, it appears to be just a list of lines that people have suggested would be worth reopening.
They also have a 'Top 36' at http://www.bettertransport.org.uk/campaigns/public_transport/rail/lines_that_should_reopen/top_36 which is more realistic.
FCC have published mockups highlighting seats with no supports near the aisles, as a feature to aid cleaning.
Looking at the NGEMU technical spec (pdf) that seems to be covered by these two paragraphs:
Obviously not final at this early stage, but seats like that are being asked for.
What is the purpose of the spacer carriages used here? I assume it is more than just to convert between coupling standards, as they are on both ends. Would they have been used if it had been hauled by another unit of the same class instead of a loco? (or does that never happen?)
The cost of non setting back may also have been taking into consideration. On an intercity service missing a station could potentially add hours to a journey. On the tube it is likely to be a few minutes to return to the previous station, or a slightly longer walk from the next station.
Is that your Brompton, or two passengers with very similar bikes? There seems to be a lot of space between the luggage rack and the first seat.
There have been some changed to the disabled toilet. The older toilets are black instead of stainless, and the flush is behind the toliet lid. The...
Why should management be forced to employ unnecessary staff who need to be paid for by passengers in the ticket price? Why should I be unable to get to work?
Management should be required to offer as much help and support as they can, but I don't think they should have any obligation to...
Looking at a map of Newhaven ( link ) the two stations seem very close together. Which leads me to ask, what are the two closest stations on the same line in the UK? Where I define 'same line' to mean you can get on a scheduled service at one station and get off it at the next.
I prefer the automated ones, because they are more likely to be clear and at a sensible volume. The announcements can be too frequent though, some of the Southern stopping services that I use read out the full list of stations every couple of minutes.
It's a well known trap in computer...
I assume that is not the final livery, as its very plain and doesn't even seem to have the FCC logo on it. It seems a bit odd to send it out looking like that, if it is just going to have to be taken away again in a few weeks for some vynal.
