I assume that is the track situated between Platforms 5 and 6. It was laid a few years back [if that's the one] and is not adjacent a platform. I had thought it was originally out of use - but was brought into use and is wired too.
Coventry gets a mention in both threads (near & far apart) - there is a new bus hub outside the station which probably counts, but Pool Meadow Bus Station itself is a good 15 min walk. I get asked occasionally.. 'which way is it to the station' etc.
Plymouth has had a mention already - think...
I think that line was called the North Staffordshire curve and was closed by October 1984, just prior to the remodelling. It linked the Stoke line with Basford Hall yard presumably and was electrified in c.1962.
Wolverhampton Steel terminal (which was part wired) and the Folly Lane Branch in the Runcorn area were former examples of electrified branches. In-fact there are quite a few former examples; the Aston (Windsor) Branch and the Mail Branch in Birmingham, Hardendale Quarry Line off the WCML, the...
Metro-Cammell built all tube stock from circa.1962 until the mid 1980's, so the 1972 Mk2 stock on the Bakerloo line, the 1973 tube stock and D (sub-surface) stock still carry their builder plates presumably. Unless they were removed after refurbishment? The same sentiments exists when one still...
My occasional days [viewing, not travelling] on the platforms of Rugby station are at an end then? Or can one purchase a platform ticket? Gates at Euston sounds a bit grim.
The commencement of the defunct Up Empty Carriage line is just south of Primrose Hill Tunnel alongside a retaining wall on the up-side before heading 'underground' - it re-appears on the down-side in an opening (now obscured by weeds etc presumably) slightly to the north of the redundant...
You don't see that much of Coventry approaching from the Rugby end - you dash through the Binley/Willenhall & Stoke Aldermoor areas at 125mph and then not long after the brakes go on as you go-over the main London Rd towards the station. Heading west towards Birmingham there's more allotments &...
There is something quite imposing about those original 1500v dc OHL masts - some of them are massive portal structures, certainly on multi-track sections. Although not as large, some of the early WCML electrification equipment was almost as bulky, look at Euston, Rugby (albeit modernised)...
That's the awkward and costly bit - that A46 bridge carries only a single track. The line is double-track from Coventry station as far as Gibbet Hill Junction (on the outskirts of the city) then it becomes single track but with a long passing loop at Kenilworth. Heading further south it's...
Just looking at your second link to your posts in 2011 and in particular the diagram of the approaches to Euston after modernisation [in the mid 60's presumably] - has the 'Shunt Neck' and some of the Goods Loops immediately south/east of Primrose Hill Tunnel been removed since electrification...
That short stretch of track is wired up - think it is known as the Up/Down Relief line, but I've never seen anything use it, since it was connected. There is OHLE on some of the approach lines to Nuneaton station [that are not wired further out] the Coventry line included. I don't suppose they...
