I've never seen an electric train use that particular section - although its not impossible to think that a Class 350 [or earlier types] EMU may have been stabled there in months/years gone by.
Its likely that the OHLE pictured here - remains pretty-much in-situ today, more that the track layout has changed or certain lines have become disused. Do those 'extra bits' of overhead mast (hanging to the left of the stanchions in the middle of the picture which cover the electric loco)...
I may stand to be corrected - but I think LM still stable Class 350 units (at the weekends) at Coventry using Quinton Rd sidings occasionally on the Leamington line and certainly in the 'North Yard' on the Nuneaton line.
Rugby Peterborough Branch siding (up to Butlers Leap) and the one wired road at the nearby Colas Depot - the former DED can't see much use (although I believe a trial freight train with a Class 86 might have traversed this section recently). You could be cheeky and add the Bilton Branch which...
I recall the Castle Cement sidings. Following that link to Google Maps (and move a little to the north) the 25kV overhead masts get wider & wider, an indication of additional wired track that isn't all there now. I presume some OHLE had to be removed after the abandonment and demolition of the...
The Carriage shed was electrified too (no trace of it today) looking at those pictures, wired then, both sides of the platforms. Duddeston looks down-at-heal now although the slow lines and redundant track to the west appears to be mostly in-situ if hidden away.
Slightly further towards...
Even the OHLE 'wirescape' has been thinned out with those losses, think the sidings now occuped by the Asda store were (part) wired. So too the area immediately east/south of the station - presumably tracks to Hinckley and around the Cemetry Sidings having been removed over the years.
Not sure what the height of the bridge is there - of-course the level crossing has gone. Coundon Rd crossing in Coventry has a road under railway dive-under.
Thanks. The line, or this stretch, wasn't just stripped of its overhead equipment, everything rail related seems to have been removed by 1971, probably earlier. A remarkably short-lived section of electrified railway.
It seems there is information out there, mostly in picture form about the Clifton Mill loop lines and associated DED - but I don't know when exactly, the line was (partially) de-electrified. It could well have been straight after the line's closure in 1966. Similarly I'm not sure when the...
This picture on Flickr (from DavidWF2009's collection) shows the 'to Rugby' branch - clearly no longer electrified as early as 1971 if that date is correct:

At some point between the lines closure as a through route...
This picture of Rugby station from John Woolley's Flickr collection has me intrigied - I added a comment under the pic similar to the query below, but no response as yet:

In the far distance and on the...
The former Rugby to Market Harborough line (or the section leading from Rugby station heading north) was formerly electrified as far as Clifton Mill station - but cut back - as mentioned, to the stub at Butlers Leap bridge:
The line heading north is seen here in c.1966 equipped with OHLE...
I'm switching between the 'Aerial 2000' and 'Aerial 1970s' photographs - albeit from a great height [1:9600] the line seems to have disappeared completely between those time periods (though it ties in with 1984 closure date). The curve appears to leave in a north-westerly direction but then...
Was this connecting line known as the 'North Staffordshire Curve'? I have a book somewhere at home stating this short line was electrified in the 1960's, only to be singled and de-electrified before final closure in Oct 1984.
It can also be spelt Styvechale (but it is pronounced 'Sty-chull' or thereabouts). How about a future station on the Cov - L'Spa line as "Cheylesmore & Stivichall" Two potentially awkward names in one!
I think the former exit of the Up Empty Carriage Line can just be seen on this YouTube video (on the far left) at 02.35 - 02.37:

I was under the impression that the Up Empty Carriage Line was electrified although clearances between the wires and the tunnel roof must have been tight. Presumably the early AC-electrics ran through this line with empty WCML coaching stock?
In this Flickr picture...
Never thought of it as being far from the city-centre - but I'm from the place. I guess from the Pool Meadow Bus station side of the city-centre to the station, it is quite a trek. I have been asked many times where the station is.
