Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

Done it, didn't figure out that I needed to press the little pen icon at first but very happy now, thank you.

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

This probably a stupid question but I've added some journeys to basket (all Avanti) and can view the seats that have been allocated. Is there a way to change the seats before paying because I can't for the life of me find one? Thanks in advance.

WCML photography / spotting locations around Milton Keynes

Yes, Haversham & Little Linford viaduct is a good spot and is searchable on Google maps. There are some decent enough car parking spots nearby. If you're going to be there a while it would be prudent to take some supplies.

    Tunbridge Wells to Tonbridge delay

I presume that you were using flexible tickets. If so, what matters is your arrival time back at Reading compared with the scheduled arrival time of the earliest connection from Tonbridge. You will, I believe, be entitled to claim for the whole journey from Tunbridge Wells to Reading based on...

I'll have some of that; thank you.

Ordinary passengers using heritage railways as public transport.

I have a rather hazy memory of getting home to my rented house in Oakworth with some colleagues from work in Bradford one evening by taking a train to Keighley and taking a ride up the valley behind double headed Deltics in the dark. It would have been in late 1988 or early 1989. It cost a bit...

LNER to pilot removal of Off-Peak tickets

You could always use Google Maps, input the destination as the bus stop you're to alight at and if the ETA has you getting there in time when you check just over 5 minutes from train departure away then purchase at that time.

Delay repay first timer advice please, 2 separate trips unfortunately.

Initial impression is that you would claim from TPE for both journeys, out and back, in their entirety. However, we would need to know the scheduled times for each leg of each journey and the actual times at each change; provided you complied with minimum connecting times the claims will be valid.

Super Off-Peak Return, Worcester to London

It is on the return journey. I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will be along soon to confirm or deny this but it seems that once you have left Euston whilst adhering to any time restriction from there you are, effectively, free to stop wherever you please en route for as long as you like within...

New Eltham to Oxford During Strike

I used the forum's site to request a journey from New Eltham to Oxford without splits specifying a via point of Woolwich Elizabeth line and it offered the Anytime single straight away. Changes at Lewisham, Canary Wharf, Woolwich and Paddington.

it’s a fairly safe bet that standard class passengers and taxpayers will indeed be paying for 1st class refreshments.

I may just have been unlucky and I should point out that my comment really only refers to Edinburgh services; on those occasions where I've been on the Leeds services things have been more pleasant. However, to add to my displeasure, although the Avanti refurb has, in my opinion, made the seats...

100% this. Neither would I and I am now restricted to Avanti as LNER's first is too often full to the rafters and noisy as a result. Fortunately, Avanti's offer is very good and the staff are unfailingly excellent

New Eltham to Oxford During Strike

New Eltham to Oxford via Woolwich is on a permitted route and, obviously, starting short on an Anytime single is fine so you're good to go.

Good shout. Also consider http://www.railrover.org/pages/coast-and-peaks-rover.html at £96.80 for any 4 days within an 8 day period. It covers all of your travel plus quite a bit more if you are so inclined.

Trivia: Rarest BR locos to survive into preservation

0802 from Glasgow southbound, can't remember the other times. 1630 from Euston northbound, 1900 from Preston, arrive Motherwell 2056 and Glasgow Central 2112. Monday, Wednesday and Friday only and it was timetabled; caught it northbound from Preston many times.

Riding a TfW Mk 4 Set

I don't see how this covers the last leg from Shrewsbury to Chester as you would be using part of the outward ticket after the return which is not permitted; indeed it seems to mean two valid tickets would be held for Chester to Manchester. The forum's site suggests a multi split journey for...
