I also believe that the no. 8 Inner Circle bus has always gone under the Highgate Road Bridge. So the question now is how high is a Birmingham Standard bus which many of us remember on that route.

East-West Rail (EWR): Should they be driver only operated, or driver & guard operated?

GWR were testing the line for diversions to Euston when there is a blockade at Old Oak Common for HS2 work next year. It was to test that the signalling communication system on the Class 800s was compatible with the line's equipment.

East-West Rail (EWR): Should they be driver only operated, or driver & guard operated?

I think that EWR has authority to run trains but I think their policy is to concentrate on the construction and then hand over each stage to Network Rail and the train operating companies.

East-West Rail (EWR): Should they be driver only operated, or driver & guard operated?

It has been known for several years that Chiltern would operate the line, although the official announcement was not made until recently, I think Chiltern was chosen as the prospective operator because the reopening of the line from Aylesbury was still on the cards at that time. The...

East-West Rail (EWR): Should they be driver only operated, or driver & guard operated?

According to reports on the WMR Class 196 thread, the Class 196 were constructed with DOO. They had to be retro-fitted with guard's door controls for use in the West Midlands. The bodyside cameras had to be de-activated. Traction training has already taken place along with route learning and...

East-West Rail (EWR): Should they be driver only operated, or driver & guard operated?

Of course DfT are involved. They are financing the leases on the trains standing idle. They specified DOO in Chiltern's contract. They have paid for the training that has already taken place. They know about the lost revenue from the failure to start the service. Since COVID the train operating...

East-West Rail (EWR): Should they be driver only operated, or driver & guard operated?

I presume it is the unions and not the drivers themselves. Any existing Chiltern staff who have been trained on the 196s and the line will be fully used to DOO and any newly recruited drivers will have been trained on DOO.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

I was looking at Traksy for the present track diagrams at Bletchley when I saw 2K16 going through. According to Traksy this was a Class 506 EMU which I thought was odd so I referred to Realtimetrains which listed the units as 730040+021. I had to look up Class 506 and found that they were 1950s...

The Class 196s were constructed for DOO. They had to be retro fitted with guards door controls for use in the West Midlands.

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

The comment about not reversing out of Milton Keynes made me think. I, and I think many people, had assumed a service Oxford - Milton Keynes - Bedford. Looking at it realistically, a service from Oxford to Bedford will go through Bletchley High Level and then down to Fenny Stratford. Because...

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

Retailers should be aware of this problem if it is the same problem that caught out Wickes some years back. Charging suppliers for stocking their products and then taking credit in the accounts in the previous accounting period. One of the fundamental features of accounting is to account for...

GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

I was travelling on a TfW class 230 last week and chatting to the guard he said that the AirCon was useless. Because the units were too hot in summer, they had fitted opening windows in the units. They were also too cold in winter so the heating was taking too much power .

Should East West Rail's Oxford-MK "branch" have a name?

When I asked the original question which started this thread, I specifically referred to Oxford to MKC as the service. This is shown in then title of the thread yet many of the comments are taking it as a reference to the whole East West Line. My point was that calling the service from Oxford to...

Should East West Rail's Oxford-MK "branch" have a name?

Bletchleyite said: I'd personally love to see it called the Turing Line, though he had more of a connection to Cambridge than Oxford. Good suggestion. Even if he was a Cambridge man, the Bletchley connection is what most people know him for.

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

We keep referring to this line as East West Rail but it is only part of what was once the Varsity Line. The Bletchly to Bedford section is known as the Marston Vale Line. Obviously, the Oxford to MKC service is going to be a stand alone line for many years to come. My question therefore is...

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

This was the schedule for today. I am just showing trains passing Winslow. As you can see. these are all scheduled paths. They have to be scheduled because at both ends of the route, the trains have to mix in with other trains on a live railway. It is a safe assumption that this is the planned...

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

WMR have been short-forming some of their trains again this year and reverting to running Class 172s on 196 diagrams so obviously they would like the class 196s back. I was told by someone from West Midlands Rail Executive that 6 units were always designated for EWR and were tacked on to the WMR...

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

We were told in August last year that drivers were being recruited and trained. The trains have been ready, I think, since the end of last year. This thread East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service was started in October last year
