Ideas for future battery-electric (BEMU) units based on GWR Class 230 technology

The Marston Vale units (230003/4/5) are diesels. I do not believe that anyone can make a business case for converting them to anything else. So their future is only for an operator prepared to use them as a small fleet and I do not see that happening. They have not run for several years and no...

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

It is now a very long time since I was involved in the Mergers and Acquisitions business but back then I recall that it was illegal to use the companies own money to buy the company's own shares. As a precaution against this we always required our clients to undertake not to take any money out...

    East West rail starting date?

Chiltern had said that Winslow was not fit for purpose when they took it over. Surprising comment as it was an open secret that Chiltern would be the operator for long before the official announcement so surely they must have had input on the design. From comments on this forum they completed...

Willenhall & Darlaston station construction updates

At present this is correct, but the question now is When will the direct service from Wolverhampton to Walsall be re-instituted? Recently there had been much discussion in the local press expressing regret that a re-institution of this service with the reopening of stations at Darlaston and...

Willenhall & Darlaston station construction updates

730s can't go to Shrewsbury as that line is not electrified. The 350s which are planed to come this way to Manchester Airport could be used. Also if we ever get a Wolverhampton to Walsall service the 350s could be used. I understand that the Walsall to Aldridge Line when that reopens will be a...

Willenhall & Darlaston station construction updates

Nice to see that the BBC is keeping up with the local news. These training/test trains have bee running for several weeks. The only difference today is that they have a 4 car unit whereas most days they have had a 2 car unit running.

Willenhall & Darlaston station construction updates

Actually not true. I have had my pass checked by the guard on trains from Selly Oak into Birmingham. I always get my ticket or pass checked if I travel on Avanti coming in from Sandwell and Dudley. I don't know if they still do but Cross Country always used to check tickets out of New Street as...

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

Manchester Airport route learning is being done with 350s. I don't think there are plans to use the 730s on the Airport services

Willenhall & Darlaston station construction updates

I think several of the posts on this thread would be more appropriate on the potential Birmingham to Manchester Airport thread. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/potential-new-service-from-birmingham-to-manchester-airport.296773/ I am not expecting the Birmingham to Manchester Airport...

Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway updates

Well if they get to operate the service, I shall use it once. I have only done the Sutton Park Line once on a diversion. The previous operator was my preferred choice as I could drive to Tame bridge Parkway easier than I could get a bus into Birmingham 1772734041 A video taken on board

Willenhall & Darlaston station construction updates

Also, as has been pointed out to me on the thread about the new stations on the Camp Hill Line, the guards need the experience of being on the trains to know stopping points, layout of the platforms etc. I would expect that at these unadvertised stops the guard will open the real cab door and...

Willenhall & Darlaston station construction updates

From the May timetable change, the Birmingham to Shrewsbury via Tame Bridge Parkway trains are scheduled to make unadvertised stops at Darlaston and Willenhall.

Fantasy: EMR to stop at West Hampstead Thameslink and Brent Cross West?

You need to factor in The West London Orbital planned service but that is still years in the future/

Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway updates

I doubt if they have the rolling stock available as any leasing agreements would be conditional on them getting the access rights. They certainly would not have the drivers and guards passed to operate the trains.

    Linking adjacent stations

Personally I usually walk through the Bull Ring centre on the rare occasions that I transfer between Birmingham New Street and Moor Street but I have the advantage of being able to drive between suburban stations on different lines so I can chose whether to take a train to New Street or Moor...

Camp Hill line - progress updates

Willenhall and Darlaston are new stations on an existing passenger line. I am just interested to know how much training is needed for these stations. I can think only stopping distances and stopping positions. The Camp Hill line, as I recall it, saw only two WMR trains on Saturday mornings.

EWR/Chiltern Class 196 Build and Implementation

196009 in Chiltern Livery has been route learning on the Camp Hill Line in Birmingham due to open 19th March although the Chiltern name has been taken off it. I think 196010 is also at Tyseley as it has also been working on WMR routes.

Camp Hill line - progress updates

You will note that the Camp Hill Station is not being reopened which was not far from Bordesley. The reasoning behind this if I remember correctly is that reopening Camp Hill would not be commercially viable in terms of journey times as it is too close to the city centre and buses would be...
