The Class 196s were built with carriage side cameras specifically for DOO use. The equipment was deactivated when these trains were used on WMR but would have been reactivated when the trains were transferred to Chiltern.
The fact of the matter is that as this is a new service so no guards have lost their jobs because of DOO. Existing Chiltern drivers are all passed to work DOO. Chiltern has been or will be recruiting guards for the new Mk 5As as they will be operating more trains on which guards are required for...
Posted on Facebook The Chiltern Line Appreciation Society. Assured that it is not AI.
EDIT Image shows 196007 in Chiltern livery. I am guessing that this is in Milton Keynes Central. Since my original post I have learned that 196009 is also in Chiltern livery with the work being don at Wolverton.
I have seen rumours that the reopening of the line will be delayed but as usual no official confirmation that I am aware of.
Not sure what staff training will be necessary. WMR should have station staff ready to draft in. It is not as if they did not have many stations already in the city and...
The 196s were built with cameras for DOO. Before they could be used on WMR they had to have them disconnected and guard's door controls fitted. I am sure the ones transferred to Chiltern have had the cameras reactivated and the trainee drivers have learned to use them.
As someone has mentioned...
This will take you to a recent post. You can back track from there.

This was the list of booked trains last Tuesday. I have shown the trains passing Winslow as it is a central point on the core of the route. I have no idea why the 196 ran in the dark but I assume that drivers have to pass out both in the dark and in daylight. You will notice several cancelations...
Interesting to see that this service is going to be served by extending the Marylebone - Oxford trains. Previous talk has been that the Milton Keynes - Oxford trains would cover the service.
Referring to the work being done at Oxford station, does this need the planned conversion of platform 1...
B & M just reported that its Chief Financial Officer is stepping down after a £7m error in its accounts. It failed to report overseas freight charges in its Cost of Goods Sold figures. That sounds like a basic bookkeeping error to me making me wonder how the accounts were made to balance. This...
I presume the DVTs were converted from Mk 3 stock so they are going to be in the same condition as the coaches so I don't see a future for therm. I think that as soon as crews are trained the existing fleet will be changed on a 1 for 1 basis. Then the further units will start taking over the DMU...
The Mk3s are owned by Arriva not a leasing company. Adrian Shooter was accused of owning the national collection of Mk3 coaches. I think the simple answer is the scrap yard.
The DVTs are not necessarily compatible with other loco-hauled trains. That is why Chiltern are having to change the 68s...
The Turbos are used for route learning. Traction learning has been done on the 196s.
This raises the question Has anyone seen the 196s recently? Where are they? They are supposed to be in Chiltern livery for the start of service.
Years ago I said that there was a major new development in IT every decade. AI was going to be the big thing in the first decade of this century. It seems it was 20 years late.
According to my old Quail Maps
Milton Keynes Central to Denbigh Hall South Junction 2m 14ch
Denbigh Hall South to Flyover Junction 1m 71 ch
FlyoverJunction to Bicester Town 19m 34ch
Of course these might not be the actual for the current tracks but I am sure that they are close enough for your...
This coming Friday there is a working Paddington to Euston and return. This is operated by a GWR Class 80x so some sort of test run.
