I think Sutton Park could be the level crossing problem as this is a public footpath within a park. The line is currently only used by freight although I have been over the line on a diverted passenger train.
If it was a young man then likely it is the one I met a couple of weeks ago at a meeting in Kidderminster. I was starting to wonder about Winslow as there was a report not long ago about a local councillor visiting the station and finding that it still needed fitting out.
I have seen several charity shops having notices about not taking any donations at present. Not seen that since the signs saying no more Da Vinci Code books.
At one time I was thinking there were too many charity shops.
At a public meeting I attended last night, I learned that 6 class 196s were always intended for the Oxford - MKC route and were tacked onto the WMR order with the intention that they would be subleased to who ever was the operator for an initial 2 year term. This contradicts some reports I have...
Also running today light engine movement with 2 round trips over the EWR section so l would guess route learning. Also a Chiltern 165 out on route learning.
Steam locals are shown on RTT as diesel locos probably because there is usually a diesel loco in the train, either as a back up or because some tours require a reversal which would require the diesel to actually haul the train for some parts of the journey. Some tours may have a steam engine...
Somewhere on this forum, possibly on the WMR 196 thread or on a previous EWR thread, it was reported that 196007-012 were on sub-lease to Chiltern about October time last year. Chiltern have been doing traction training with them out of Bletchley Depot on the Oxford-MKC Line for about two months.
Do Chiltern have all 6 units yet? I assume that they would not want to start the service with insufficient units. The full timetable requires 4 units in service each day with 2 units spare.
Also how long will it take to re-livery the units? Will it require a repaint or will they be wrapped? Will...
There are three in store which were purchased by GWR along with the intellectual property so I would have thought that it would now, with the knowledge gained from 230001, be worthwhile bringing those into service. The money spent by GWR is now sunk money so we are just talking about marginal...
The 6 Class 196s also will be re-liveried according to Chiltern's announcement. I have seen reports that they are still in WMR livery a few days ago. This will be another delay in opening the Oxford - MKC route.
There has been no public mention of this but I am wondering if the question of DOO...
As we have been told upthread The 196s are being used for traction learning and the 165s are being used for route learning. This is why they are running to Fenny Stratford as that is the access route to the depot.
Interesting. That is a point I don't think I would have thought of. The 730/0s on the Cross City Line in Birmingham require the guard to work from the front cab of the second unit at University and possibly other stations.
This is an extract from a Facebook post by Stourbridge Line User Group following a meeting with West Midlands Railways. The full report goes into both the 172s and the 196s but I have just extracted what I think is relevant on the thread.
Class 196. West Midlands had 12 2-car Class 196/0 and...
The train was being operated by Rail Adventure for the purpose of this trip so the journey was officially a rail tour. Last year I was on a tour which actually did all three Greenford junctions so the line is passed for passenger service.
I would have thought that the stations on the Oxford - MKC section would have been built for 6 car units. From videos my guess is that Winslow and Bletchley HL were 6 car or passive provision for 6 car.
