Peel Ports have issues their draft masterplan for the Merseyside and North West area.
http://www.merseydocks.co.uk/assets/pdf/masterplan/Consultation_Draft.pdf
It's a big document but does include many rail schemes to link port and dock expansions across the North West area.
It may be...
:D:D
The OP was asking for the consideration of other lines, not a regional assessment.:D
Cheshire is caught between Merseyside and Manchester. Two areas with great public transport services. Cheshire has virtually no cross county East-West routes by bus or train and limited access to...
Chester to Warrington Bank Quay.
Chester to Runcorn (Via redoubled Halton Curve).
Chester to Crewe.
Ellesmere Port to Helsby 3rd Rail (If Shell allow).
Not that I'm biased towards Cheshire of course..
Possibly. But London and the rest of the SE is already heavily overcrowded and business costs are very high. Why would a company relocate the London when it could say move to Leeds with lower costs but with access times to the capital and the continent far less than they are now? The capacity...
At this time, planning permission is being granted across the country for windfarms, pylons and substations across vast areas of AONB in support of green energy. NIMBYS are nothing more than modern day Luddites. HS2 is needed to reduce the loads on WCML and MML, to compete with environmentally...
Redouble the Halton Curve, replace the points/diamond crossings and electrify from Chester to Runcorn. Direct access from Chester to Liverpool.
I suppose whilst they were at it, electrifying the Chester to Warrington stretch would not cost too much more.
The issues regarding access on the...
Take the Halton Curve. One train a week in one direction. Used to be doubled, now single. Network Rail wanted to close it but it stayed open. Now Merseyrail, many businesses including Liverpool Airport and all the local councils want it fully restoring as a freight line and for access to...
It looks like that on Saturday June 4th 2011, Northern Rail will be repeating last years group journey on the Chester to Runcorn Parliamentary service.

Thats the one. The points set up means the train can only travel in one direction and the double track was pulled a few years ago to leave it single track. Reopening would give a direct route into Liverpool, via South Parkway, for all of NW and even Mid Wales.
When I was a child our family house used to back on to this line and I remember the odd DMU trundling up it during the summer months. That would have been in the early 70's. Plenty of freight all year round.
Birkenhead to all stations up the Mid Cheshire.. It would take forever. Still, it could be a commuter route with decent enough rolling stock. I suppose it could run to Altrincham for the Metro??
I picked up on an article on the North Wales Coast noticeboard.

It appears that Peel Holdings are to reopen the Ellesmere Port railhead (Good news for freight fans). Now I remember this used to route freight via the now lifted, but preserved, line between...
SOme old news from todays Chester Chron..
