SWR Class 458 to be retained

That makes the whole situation worse really. I can understand unforseen issues arising during testing preventing 12 car running, but the length of the trains was known and it is a pretty monumental error to sign off on this project when it was never going to work. Not to mention how useful the...

What happens if you miss your train as barriers are programmed to reject valid tickets

I got through at Victoria yesterday with my Railcard discounted ticket loaded to smartcard. I'll stick to those until this action blows over

What happens if you miss your train as barriers are programmed to reject valid tickets

Thanks - I'll advise my wife to set up Tap2go then to avoid any further inconvenience

What happens if you miss your train as barriers are programmed to reject valid tickets

For the same reason as a ticket would be rejected, to check the discount entitlement.

What happens if you miss your train as barriers are programmed to reject valid tickets

Poor phrasing on my part. Would using Tap2go (with Railcard discount) and having the card rejected at the gate cause a maximum fare to be charged if you have to ask to be let through manually?

What happens if you miss your train as barriers are programmed to reject valid tickets

Wouldn't rejecting smart card tickets cause issues with completing journeys if using Tap2go?

What happens if you miss your train as barriers are programmed to reject valid tickets

Sorry to bump the thread but it didn't seem worth starting a new one. My wife had her Railcard discounted e-ticket rejected by the barrier at Waterloo last week - she had to seek out staff and was asked to show the Railcard. Was this just bad luck/ user error or can these now be rejected at the...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I can't see a Tensabarrier type situation working, or being accepted by staff.. Imagine a guard trying to do that at Putney on a morning peak service or Twickenham on a rugby day. No chance at all.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I tend to agree with this, although I'm not convinced the Tensabarrier approach will work and people will just spill in to it on crush loaded trains. I suspect all the easy platform extensions have been done now, and SWR are not capable of clever diagramming as we've seen over the past few...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I suspect anyone but SWR would have got these in to service by now. SWR are clearly happy to pocket the management fee for the next few months doing less than the bare minimum. RE the bold - well that's the big question isn't it. Someone will either have to (further) cut services or spend money...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Don't give them ideas. SWR would probably decide to remove a coach and run them as 4/ 8 coach trains and present it as a capacity increase.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

:D there speaks a manager who never travels on their company's services. Would a push for full DOO get these in service quicker? IIRC SWR drivers already have this in their contracts? I wouldn't be surprised if they tried this next, lurching from one undeliverable plan to another...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I guess if it's been badly designed then yes - which these clearly have, compounded by awful management at SWR. Absolutely no chance of anyone agreeing to that.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Would it make a difference if everything came to a head and there was a crisis? Or given that SWR have one foot out the door they just don't care anymore and nothing will change

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I wonder if it's worth going back to proper DCO now and to the previously agreed training course. Trying to agree a shorter course has clearly made things worse.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

You are right there, guilty as charged! Somehow I managed to over estimate how competent SWR are, which is pretty amazing really. Agree with @Goldfish62 - rollout is likely to go backwards now with no further staff being trained, sickness annual leave and staff turnover will see available staff...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Yes, I saw that heading towards Windsor from Ashford this morning. Looks like it is being swapped later though as only that round trip appeared on journey check as a short form. I see the 07:53 Windsor to Waterloo was already 7 minutes down by Whitton and skipped Twickenham and Richmond. Any...

    Woking to South Acton

I don't have any fare advice for you, but FYI there is a (very) early morning direct service from Woking to Waterloo which goes via Kew Bridge and Chiswick (05.27 from Woking). If you have flexibility to start/ finish early that may work for you.

SW Main line January engineering works - impact on level crossings.

... but increases it in Chiswick and Isleworth. Motorists are getting a better deal than they used to overall though as SWR have cut the service by 50% at weekends compared to pre-covid

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Are SWR uniquely incompetent, or are other operators just as bad? I don't remember a roll out ever being managed this badly, although admittedly I probably wouldn't pay such close attention if it didn't affect me. Any update on training resuming yet?
