Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

East Linton is 4.2, Spott Road is 4.1. I think putting coaches on the route would be unpopular amongst the concession card holders of Dunbar and Haddington, forcing them up stairs would really add to dwell times at stops.

Correct, it's February half term so the schools are closed. Usually the chance will be taken to catch up on maintenance a bit so less buses are ready for service.

Yes I think we may have been struggling a bit this morning. Next week is also a schools off week so there are generally less spare buses at Musselburgh. The board it was put on finishes at North Berwick and Marine wanted it back for a check so had to be swapped early rather than finish the duty.

It is still used, all 8 buses are used Monday to Friday. 3 singles on the X5, one for an X7 that starts and finishes in Dunbar, and four doubles for 124s. The 06:57 departure is also a NB turn. On Saturdays the X7 board doesn't run so there is one spare, and on Sundays none of the singles are out.

I think it is meant to be everywhere but yes, in practice the rule often gets left behind once out on the road.

It's still very much company policy that drivers are required to use a banksperson when reversing a bus. I'm sure Lothian aren't the only company to have this policy in place.

Milngavie and Paisley Gilmour Street are two I would say that are more interesting than most in the area.

    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

Black Isle Bar Rooms - Inverness Located about 10 minutes walk away from Inverness station, it's a reasonable hostel-style roof over your head. I believe all rooms are twin/bunk bed with private bathrooms so no need to worry about sharing. There was some noise as the pub and beer garden are...

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

Bear in mind that North Berwick to Dunbar is no more than 20 minutes, it's not a huge amount of off-service mileage. It's certainly not the longest garage run in the company. Musselburgh depot is full, so any boards that move there will need an equivalent number to move to Dunbar. In other...

Caladonian Sleeper - Can you board at Edinburgh / Glasgow

Sorry I should clarify; you can board only the Fort William at Edinburgh i.e. not the Aberdeen or Inverness.

Caladonian Sleeper - Can you board at Edinburgh / Glasgow

Northbound, you can only board the Fort William portion at Edinburgh. I think it's reservation only but I'm not sure, best to give their guest services a call, but with an all lines rover ticket you'd only need a reservation to travel in the seats at no extra cost. Fyi an all lines rover ticket...

    What foods do you crave?

Lorne sausage is a delightful creation, especially on a roll with brown sauce and a potato scone. Something I've had a real craving for recently is carrot and coriander soup. There's a place local to me that doesn't go too heavy handed with the coriander, and I find it quite nicely balanced.

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

Frustrating though it is having a full bus leaving Waterloo Place or Abbey hill, to then be half empty by the time we get to Milton Link, turning people away is a no-no. The decker duplicate was removed and not really replaced. There's the same number of journeys as before the dupe started but...

Layover point is now on East Fountainbridge, with the last bus stop being the Usher Hall. The Fire Service were complaining about the buses laying over at Ponton Street as a few drivers had been sitting with the engine running.

No public BZL order. From the press release... Suggests something may be in the early stages of procurement.
