Delay repay when 2 train companies are involved.

Thanks for the answer, I will try TPE.

Delay repay when 2 train companies are involved.

I purchased two returns using the Northern App from York to Bridlington. The section York to Seamer is TPE, the remaining part to Bridlington is Northern. The outward journey was fine. On the return journey the Northern train was on time but the TPE train from Seamer to York was cancelled...

TPE franchise to move to OLR

Perhaps in order to liven things up, TPE were running to some unusual destinations from Scarborough. First off to Middlesborough, presumably not via Whitby. Other examples included Cleethorpes and Oxenholme. Despite much attention by the guard and others the train was allowed to 'run' to...

Long or high railway bridges you can walk over

No, that's something else. There is a public footpath to either end and across the viaduct.

Long or high railway bridges you can walk over

    Great Britain interurban bus map

You are doing a fantastic job. This should be done nationally with funding. If bus journeys are going to cost £2 for a few months at least some of the subsidy could be spent on providing information about bus services. 1677435758 All of the larger bus companies should be using the same user...

    Great Britain interurban bus map

An alternative route from Whitby to Middlesborough is the Arriva service X4, X4A which runs half hourly between Whitby, Loftus, Saltburn and Redcar.

Why did the NYMR not save the line from Pickering To Malton?

This bus service, the Coastliner 840, is under threat. If it does cease then I would expect some alternative service would be introduced connecting Malton with Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale. Integration of such a bus service with the trains at Malton would be helpful. The bus station is almost...

DfT Plan to Demolish Disused Bridges and Tunnels

I know this bridge well, having driven, ridden, walked over it and watched them fill it in. This is no great loss as unless the plan is to run a cycleway through people's gardens situated on one side of the bridge, there are better ways of providing access to the old railway's route. Personally...

Extending ENCTS after 9.30am to trains.

The ENCTS card should be used as a National Senior Railcard. This would save the annual fee and probably encourage people to use the discounted rail fares. When talking about a Senior Railcard to those without one, people see the £30 fee as a barrier to getting a Senior Railcard. With regards to...

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

You may remember the bridge at Tadcaster partially collapsing in 2015 due to flooding. At that time there where very narrow pavements over the bridge. Due to public demand the bridge was rebuilt with much wider pavements. This was achieved by cantilevering the concrete slabs used for providing...

Long turn-rounds at quiet terminus stations

So if you put in another station somewhere on the line and thus lengthen the journey time, it wouldn't affect the service and might create a greater gap between trains arriving at Malton, thus reducing operating difficulties ?

Would it have been possible for the steam locomotive to have been invented earlier?

Hay Inclined Plane, Ironbridge. Probably not the first but still there.

L&Y Platforms - were they lower?

The Bury platform at Accrington (ELR) had a significant section of unusually low platform. Without a great deal of research, photos of some other ELR stations seems to indicate a low section of platform as well as a section of more standard height.

Equivalent of Beeching in other countries

There is a free IGN website which displays a number of old maps overlain on recent mapping and aerial photographs - Geoportail . None of these show the detail available on the 25inch to a mile OS maps at the NLS. I think national mapping in France was nothing like as advanced as the OS.

    Favourite 'Railway' confectionery

A Costa coffee from a small kiosk on the down platform at Reading. On a few occasions I got off the train, bought a coffee and caught the next train.

Equivalent of Beeching in other countries

Some of these dotted lines have been converted to 'Metro' services. Specifically the Rotterdam to Hoek van Holland and the Rotterdam to Den Haag line (Randstadrail). Some lines around Den Haag have been integrated into the tram network. As such, at times they run intensive commuter services.

Would Closed Rail Links In England Reopen?

The Coastliner bus runs hourly from more or less outside Malton station to Pickering. Unfortunately it is a bit of a hike from the bus stop in Pickering to the NYMR station. The Coastliner bus would waste quite a bit of time diverting from the current route to pass near the NYMR station...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Level up with a new station in the tunnel under Town End and use lifts to provide access. A station similar to those on the Elizabeth Line will do. No chance. Otherwise, a very frequent electric bus between the station and the town centre.

TRIVIA: Junctions where two, four track lines diverge

Manchester Victoria East Junction split four to two fours, with a parallel 4 lines coming from the east-facing bay platforms which merged into the Miles Plating 4, so you could say there was four to two fours in both directions. There is photo in this archive illustrating the layout: Manchester...
