    Horse boxes

Does any one know of any sources of information and/or photographs of railway horse boxes used to carry race horses and polo ponies around the country prior to the 2nd World War ?. I am particularly interested in LNER services, but any information would be useful as I have not been able to...

    Northallerton Disruption

I heard that fatalities of this kind are running about 50% higher than last year.

    Electrification North-West

It's a little more complicated than that. Shortly after the L&Y took over the Dick, Kerr experiment, they converted the Holcombe Brook line to the side contact, 1.2kV DC electric service used on the Bury to Manchester line. In the book "Railways in and around Bury", Jeffrey Wells relates a...

    Possible route reopenings

How about a Nottingham - Leicester - Rugby - Northampton -Milton Keynes - Bicester - Oxford - Didcot service ?. This connects a number of quite large towns and cities for which there is no easy connection on the current network.

    Possible route reopenings

The existing hourly connection from the TPE service into the Manchester-Llandudno service is quite a good one. The problem is that this service stops at all stations and hence it is a bit slow. When TPE moves to Victoria it is essential this connection is maintained. However, it would be nice...

    Possible route reopenings

I wonder if any attention is being given to re-opening to passenger services using the ex-L&Y route from Miles Platting to Ashburys, including the disused curve into Piccadilly. This is currently a freight route. A new station close to the Manchester City ground and the other local sports...

    What the heck ...

Well if you don't see it I will try and help: it has rather amusing, micheal extracting, references to UK railways.

    What the heck ...

Rubbish. For a start it's American and it's about kids. Secondly it's musically inept and has no spunk. Thirdly, it doesn't feature York Station.

    Fantasy: My transpennine electrification/upgrade ideas

A 20 minute service from Castleford to York would create a very useful commuter route into York. Compare rents and house prices in York with those in Castleford. Thinking further about open access, a service could also run along the Calder valley into Victoria, Piccadilly and the airport...

    Fantasy: My transpennine electrification/upgrade ideas

I am not sure what the York - Leeds service would be post electrification, but perhaps cross-platform interchange at York between electrified services from Newcastle to Leeds (and London) is feasible. I assume that some of the electrified TPE services would start from the south facing bay...

    Fantasy: My transpennine electrification/upgrade ideas

Wakefield (including Castleford, Normanton), the 89th largest city in Europe, with a population of 322,000. I think improving East-West train services might do something for improving the economy of this former coal mining region. After TPE electrification, perhaps the residual TPE diesel...

Future Routes that would be viable?

That's true. Thinking a bit more about Leeds services, I wonder if one TPE service to Manchester Airport from the NE could be diverted to run from Church Fenton via Castleford and Wakefield. The difference in mileage is minimal. This would open up a new market, free an E-W path through...

Future Routes that would be viable?

It would be useful to have a direct, fast service from Leeds (or even York ) to Windermere in order to get to the Lakes. It's a right pig to drive to the Lake District from there and using the Morecambe train and changing at Lancaster is a real time waster, as is going via Manchester...
