    Transport for Wales Class 230

Realtime Trains suggests it was 010 which was on the 09:32 arrival at Bidston, but the next round trip to Wrexham to cancelled. It came back into service for the next trip from Bidston at 11:51 and stayed out in service...

    MML Electrification: progress updates

I came across this recent cabride video today, including a run on the MML slow lines from West Hampstead to Bedford. It's not so easy to see but I think you can spot new registration arms on the fast lines and shiny new headspans. But I'm no expert!

    An increase to 7 701 units in passenger service this morning: 017, 031, 034, 036, 037, 039 & 043.

BBC - UK investigating claims green fuel [HVO] contains virgin palm oil

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm24n8nej94o I've seen a number of operators proudly demonstrating diesel trains fuelled by HVO. Turns out it might not be so green after all. Perhaps the only answer to decarbonise railways really is electrification.

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2 & 3

Recently this rather impressive double-sided totem sign has appeared at London Waterloo, at the bottom of the ramp to the international platforms. It appears to be the latest spec with the new arrows, and has the black and red border shown in the design manual. I have also just spotted a...

    Merseyrail semi-fast running antics.

When services only have a 4 minute turnaround time after each 1.5 hour journey, then a 3 minute delay is significant. Of course it will inconvenience some people but without intervention it will delay many more people throughout the day, as well as delaying over services on the loop line in...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Something I noticed is the work still required at Colton Junction. It's clear that it isn't finished and that the headspans over the junction are being replaced by portals. The portals are in the place but the wires need transferring and the headspans removed.

    WCML rewiring 2026 to 2036

Apologies if already mentioned, but isn't this the TriLink project? https://www.railengineer.co.uk/trilink-the-intelligent-renewal-of-west-coast-main-line-north/ A cross industry partnership to completely renew and slightly enhance the north WCML. The Rail Engineer article mentions track...

    ECML vs GWML Electrification masts

Indeed! Designing for quick installation didn't mean it turned out that way in practice! Although I believe most of the delays on the GWEP were with piling, rather than installing the masts and booms etc.

    ECML vs GWML Electrification masts

This is an interesting talk from the Permanent Way Institution YouTube channel titled "Great Western electrification: why are the masts so big? It covers details which may not be obvious at first glance. For example the TTC* structures in that picture were designed for quick installation to...

    ETCS Vulnerability to Radio Outage

Certainly plenty of delays and a few cancellations through the Thameslink core this morning but looking on Recent Train Times it was actually worse yesterday!

    ETCS Vulnerability to Radio Outage

RealTimeTrains suggests there were a couple of cancellations at Aberystwyth and delays on all lines but everything from Pwllheli ran this morning.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Luckily when they extended platforms to 10 car lengths about 10 years ago, they stuck the 8 and 10 car stop boards on the same post, so little chance of that happening.

Cross Country Cancellations - Emergency Timetable

From what I can see from Realtime Trains. The Monday to Friday service is virtually unchanged. Edited - On Saturday nights the 2210 is extended from Gloucester to Cheltenham. The last train is still the 23:18 to Gloucester.

Cross Country Cancellations - Emergency Timetable

TfW are not making cuts to this route. They are changing to terminate at Cardiff instead of running through to Maesteg, which should actually improve reliability.

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates
