The service is mostly 2tph throughout the day at the moment. As far as I can tell the missing trains are from London at 08:30, 10:30, 12:30, 21:30 and from Birmingham at 11:15, 13:15, 15:15, 18:45, 19:45, 20:45.
Whether all the gaps in the evenings will be filled who knows.
Solar panels could slightly extend range but the issue is that the sun isn't powerful enough. The average power of sunlight on earths surface is about 1000 watts per square metre. So a completely covered car with say 4x2 metres of 100%* efficient solar panels would only generate 8kW which is...
Is this whole article about the application for 1 mast? I'm very happy that the necessary environmental factors are being considered but it makes you realise how complex these projects are. Hopefully the rest of the route is a bit more straightforward!
Summary of latest line speed improvements:

Out of interest, are there any national or international standards for the colours to denote areas for wheelchair accessibility, cycle spaces etc? Maybe something for GBR to consider because at the moment each TOC has their own system.
I don't think there are any issues, it's just finally ended up on a diagram that ends at Central Rivers depot, where it was supposed to end up after the first day in service. Disruption meant it was displaced and ended up going all over the country for a few days. All things considered I think...
Indeed, the Southport line is and was the only line to retain a 15 minute frequency until the end of service. It is certainly frustrating for Hunts Cross line passengers that this has been taken away, but it is the same experience as most of the Merseyrail network.
Sorry I realise this is odd topic for May 2026, but the current peak timetable still has 16tph, one less than 1982.
1700 Kingston Loop
1703 Windsor
1707 Hounslow via Brentford
1713 Aldershot
1715 Hounslow via Richmond
1720 Reading
1722 Weybridge via Brentford

Just to pick up on this point. 12 trains per hour is one every 5 minutes on average. The current Train Planning Rules show a 3 or 3.5 minute headway depending on direction between Pontypridd and Radyr, so the signalling system can definitely handle it. In the current timetable there are trains...
I noticed today a round trip from North Pole depot to Euston and return, via Paddington, Oxford, Winslow and Milton Keynes. 5Q76 and 5Q77 operated by a pair of GWR class 800's.
Does anyone know the purpose of this run? Route learning for an upcoming diversion perhaps...
