    Haymarket to Dalmeny electrification

Here are a couple of screenshots from the video in post #794 of a back cab ride through Edinburgh Gateway in August. First shows surge arrestors in place on the south side of the A8 bridge (Also visible on Google Streetview). Second shows the supports for the overhead wires already installed...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Queen Street to Llandaf and Heath are the only stretches of track with a linespeed higher than 60mph on any route the 398's will operate on I believe, so probably not a big issue.

    May 2026 timetable

Looking at Ashley Down on weekdays: There is a new first train from Bristol 1 hour earlier, departing Bristol Temple Meads at 07:07. There's an additional morning peak train departing Filton Abbey Wood at 08:17. Filling the gap between the 07:48 and 08:47 and giving a convenient 08:31 arrival...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Mirfield station reopened on the 27/12 with the island platforms 1 & 2 complete and the new footbridge open. The tracks through these platforms are in their final alignments, with a stretch of the new eastbound fast line now marooned after being temporarily being used by westbound fast trains...

    Merseyrail 777 introduction

Since 8 car trains already stop at St Michael's and Aigburth so do you know if this part of SDO functional or do all doors fit on the platform?

December 2025 Timetable Change - Confirmed changes only

Looks like the 22:38 still runs on Friday and Saturday (as well as the 21:35). So more choice for a weekend evening out in Sheffield.

South parkway is served hourly on Saturdays also. No Sunday service I think.

What happened to this Formby to Liverpool Central train 07/12/25?

Yes looks like they couldn't resource the additional services for whatever reason. One extra circuit did run, leaving Southport at 10:16, 12:18 and 15:48 (777049). Which could probably be done by a single driver and train manager. I assume these extra services rely on train crew volunteering...

https://www.ontimetrains.co.uk/journeys/MAN/EUS/07:00/08:59/VT;dayOfWeekRange=Weekdays;dateRange=12W According to OntimeTrains in the last 12 weeks the 08:59 arrival gets to Euston: Within 1 minute 7% Within 5 minutes 37% Within 10 minutes 78% So probably not be relied on, it was over 20...

EMR need to be stripped of their franchise

Looking at the RecentTrainTimes website for Thursday 20th. It appears 6 out of 10 Liverpool to Norwich trains ran throughout. The other 4 were part cancelled, 2 running Manchester to Nottingham and 2 Liverpool to Nottingham. Of the 3 Liverpool to Nottingham trains in the evening, 2 ran...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Some more info in this thread. It seems there is a plan to provide a W12 cleared route for freight utilising the TRU route across the Pennines. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/northern-england-w12-upgrades-pipeline.289462/

Tavistock - Bere Alston Feasibility Study in jeopardy. But what could be done if the money was available?

Dare I say that previous reopenings have been a success because they are the projects that had successful business cases. Projects that don't pass the test are not built, so we don't see many unsuccessful reopenings. So perhaps business cases are doing their job correctly. I would very much...

New Merseyrail ticket barriers and Contactless payment introduction

Interesting because the old barriers did have card readers (for Walrus/Metro cards). Maybe they aren't the correct type for bank cards or they just needed replacing?

Dare I be the pendant to say that for 4 car units the intermediate coach without space for wheelchair users should have 2 sets of doors. And the set of doors on the other intermediate coach should at the end closest to the power pack
