Oh I don’t disagree 701’s are far superior for the Windsor Lines in general, especially the Weybridge and Windsor services. I commuted daily to Whitton & Twickenham for nearly five years, so I’m well aware of the traffic levels. For the Reading service, I appreciate 701’s hoover up the Richmond...
I may have missed it, but are these getting withdrawn? If so, why? I feel like they’re perfectly suitable units (far more suitable than the 701’s for services like Reading). Are they just surplus and non-standard and so off for t’chop?
Speaking of four crews, there was a Southern service that ran London Bridge to Norwood Junction by a metro crew (I think London Bridge), then Norwood Junction to East Croydon with a Horsham driver to allow them to cover that, then a Brighton Driver from East Croydon to Purley to keep up their...
I think the bit that gets me is that it’s on way finder things such as maps and roundels. They’ve advertised on the station walls and escalators for years, no issue with that. But changing Bond Street’s roundels and playing about with maps is just not helpful.
I don’t even mind Google pay being...
I’ve long since given up trying to memorise the Chiltern timetable. I don’t use them very often but when I do go for bash, I find everything is different to how I remember it from last time.
Yeh I’ve answered questions on suicide/railway deaths. I’m animated in my approach to my talks and make jokes and wind the kids up where appropriate. But when they ask questions about that topic I naturally change to a much more sensible/respectful tone and the kids sense that. I’ve yet to come...
I do these for my railway employer (I’m not a driver but I work very closely with them) and they ask all sorts, but nothing that you wouldn’t expect. They often enjoy stats, the sort of ones like ‘no way that’s true’. I often drop the number of applicants to places to show how popular the job...
It often seems to happen when a change is made. It happens on the Marshlink every so often. When a set swap takes place the platforms screens can sometimes show 6 car as the system seems to have had the new one added but not removed the old one.
Yeh I agree with most, providing it’s quiet and respectful. I’ve often done it, usually when I know it’s one I can keep the camera off and sit listening and add ‘nothing from me!’ at the end.
That said, if it’s a juicy meeting where someone’s getting the chop, let’s hear all the drama :lol:
Selhurst still has one. Though it’s open to anyone and not just railway (and makes a good profit on match days I’m told). It’s tucked down an alley way so probably wouldn’t be obvious if you didn’t know it was there.
I know many places often avoid the use of O & I to avoid confusion with 0 & 1. Of course, railway staff know headcodes are formed ‘number letter number number’ but it may have something to do with it.
I don’t know about freight operations so that I don’t know.
I think the problem is the OP is hoping for a ‘black and white, yes or no’ answer. Which in reality, isn’t the case. Ignoring the Union part of the question, it’s like saying, ‘Hey, would you help a bloke?’, well, maybe. I need more information! Who? Why?
I’m not saying it’s a hardline stance that has to exist. Just that it’s the Union Rep’s right to say yes or no. And I think that’s perfectly acceptable. I generally have the stance that if you wish to do something against the rules in life, whatever it may be, you can always ask the person in...
Conscience, maybe. But it’s clearly set out. You join the Union, you get their support, you don't join, you don’t get the support. I think that’s fair. As DK1 says, that’s how it works.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m sure there are people who haven’t joined for legitimate reasons and Union Reps may be...
I’m only (relatively) knowledgable on the railway, but I wouldn’t be surprised for railway Union rules and operations to be different to those in retail.
The answer is no. Union Reps do not have to assist non Union members. But as I explained in my previous post there may be some circumstances...
If they aren’t in the Union then there is nothing to say they should represent them. That said a few caveats.
- Some Union reps may decide to represent on the basis the situation at hand is of significant interest to the staff they represent in general and may have knock on effects to their...
