    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Must have been taken earlier in the year during a possession as there's some track missing where it was being slewed to the new platform 2 at Cardiff Bay.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Thanks, very interesting. There are so many projects on a go slow or severely delayed that cash flow had to be the cause. Mind blown by the number of drivers employed by the way, wow!

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

The tender mentions doubling the Bay line which either means Butetown will open using just the down platform or it won't open until mid 2027. Amazing when you consider that it will have been 5 years since the work on there Bay line started until it's finished. Just as well no one has been...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Essentialy TfW are just not providing a proper service on the Coryton line, they clearly see it as the lowest priority. This is not in any way encouraging people out of their cars, not to mention the 2 tph if you're lucky service.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 Stadler FLIRTs

As far as I know there haven't been any unit failures, so I wonder what the issue is now? It's all pretty dire anyway, and the from the perspective of the travelling public it must seem like a bit of a joke.

Could there have been a high level curve between the bay line and the main line around John St in Cardiff?

A connection to the high level lines would be to the west. The idea is to run trains to Plasdŵr and possibly to Beddau, if that ever happens and also to Penarth.

Could there have been a high level curve between the bay line and the main line around John St in Cardiff?

The plans for the new platforms do take into account possible future connection to the high level lines at Central.

Could there have been a high level curve between the bay line and the main line around John St in Cardiff?

I think one of the main issues is the lack of platform capacity at Central, building extra platforms circumvents this problem. If the whole line gets built this becomes even more problematic as there will presumably be many more trains per hour.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Point 7.7 of conclusions on page 61 states that TfW anticipates that construction will begin in early 2028. That suggests that once the TWAO has been granted there's an 18 month wait period, I thought that ground works were due to begin imminently.

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

Not quite as bad as the 701s but still does seem like a waste of resources. TfW don't choose to share much with the public so we can only speculate. There are several 398s at Old Dalby for post modification testing I read on here, not sure what those mods were.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

It doesn't really explain why they've closed the station for works that they're not doing. The planning application went in for the platform extension in 2022, surely enough time to have scheduled works in tandem with the station closure.

The 756s have SDO do they not?

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

This is peak TfW incompetence, why close a station and do nothing? Do they have planners in their office?

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

"...construction of the Metro - which we'll be working to deliver over the coming years"? I was under the impression that the project was nearing completion, this makes it sound like spades have just gone into the ground

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Unfortunately I'm coming to the conclusion that Amey are not capable of the proper running of the Valleys. It all seems very chaotic at times, and that includes their terrible comms team. It's certainly not a great advert for nationalised railways. I think a change of leadership may be helpful.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Lots of work going on for the new entrance to Cardiff Bay station this week but Butetown looks like a long way off any sort of completion. Just 1/4 of the supporting wall steel rods in place for the up platform and no work happening on site. Is there just one small team for the bay branch works?

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

I'm assuming that as half on the CVL drivers (175) are required to be trained before the 398s enter service, this means that it may be some time yet until their introduction. Unless it's a short course!

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

The piecemeal approach to the Bay line enhancements is befuddling. I can only assume it's prioritising of funds and a lack of urgency due to the 398s being so behind in entering service.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I'm not sure how heavily it'll be used either, but with trains planned to run to all the TAM lines, it will be a useful station to travel further afield than Queen Street. Maybe even people of reduced mobility or the slightly lazy will use it to get to Central from 2028. If the line gets built...

Yes, the Riverside platforms were formerly Cardiff Riverside station and then they were incorporated into the main station as platforms 8 & 9.
