    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Makes me think that the writing off of the 398s has been very much exaggerated on other threads, especially as the document is new.

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

I guess the question is, what's the alternative? I imagine that any change in rolling stock would be 3 years down the line, if that's even an option. Unless Stadler have a load of spare FLIRTs knocking about.

    Cardiff Central redevelopment plans

Some of the Crossrail CGIs don't even have a canopy on the tram platforms, and there has been no recent suggestion of a covered walkway either. How much would these cost in the grand scheme of the station redevelopment? It's mad when you condsider how wet Cardiff is.

    Cardiff Central redevelopment plans

£4.95 for an hour, a day, a week? Also the spacing of the bullet points hurts my face.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Reliability is of course the most important factor, but travelling when I was home before Christmas it felt like a different world to previously. I could just tap in and out with my phone, the trains are quiet, big and comfortable and seemed to be a lot busier than I ever remember. Improvements...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I assuming (as you have to as TfW are not keen on talking) that the Butetown southbound platform will open in May, then the whole station will follow next year once the track works are complete at Queen St. Presumably then 6tph will commence, 2 from each TAM branch from May 2027.

Commute from Crwys Road to Cardiff

Hopefully not just the Coryton trains as that would be a half hourly service which wouldn't compete with buses from Crwys Rd. I don't actually know the expected stoppers from there, has anyone seen the planned service patterns?

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 Stadler FLIRTs

I think the idea would be to use them for Cardiff to Bristol services and the wires would be used through the tunnel and for a while after.

Possible South Wales Metro Tram Extensions?

Yes, I've seen it on Mark Barry's Metro plan and have read it elsewhere. Don't have any other references if anyone can assist.

Possible South Wales Metro Tram Extensions?

I think the medium term plan is for the 398s to run to Penarth, not sure what their battery range is.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Platform capacity at Central is one if the issues as is having operational flexibility by having another terminus with 2 very long platforms. There will also be the need for a lot more capacity on the Bay branch with the new arena under construction.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

The time scale for the Queen St work seems less than ambitious, and assuming this is when the 2nd platforms will open on the Bay branch, this tiny branch upgrade will have taken more than 4 years!

Great British Railways: Station identity and livery unveiling (09/12/25)

I don't mind the power car design but the repeated design on the carriages doesn't look great. I think the more important issue for the public will be, what are the interiors going to be like? I'd like to know how they're going to improve the appalling interiors of the GWR IETs amongst others.

    Cardiff Central redevelopment plans

The Construction Enquirer article states a 2029 completion of works whereas all previous plans have stated Summer 2028, has it slipped that much? Not ideal for the football in 2028 if so. There's a caveat about the fly though CGI video in the TfW article that says it may change from what's...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I'd imagine that the Bay line go live may be being delayed to allow for the construction works at Butetown station. Also no 398s so it doesn't really matter until they are brought into service.

    Cardiff Central redevelopment plans

We can expect lots of work at Cardiff Central next year with this and the Cardiff Bay tram link both starting. Will be a massive change to the south side of the station, looking forward to seeing it develop.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Yes it's sadly very much a wasted opportunity, a tramway along this route would have been perfect. The designs for a park along with waterways look good though, if that ever happens.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

There are many things which baffle me with the WG but their complete lack of ambition/interest in the airport that they own, and costs them a lot of money, is bizarre. Will this new CEO be talking to Qatar et. al.? Have TfW been engaged in the airport development plan?

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Imagine the possibilities when there's a reliable service and 4 tph. Also a park & ride at J32 should be added urgently, such an easy win for tackling congestion (money issues aside).

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I'm sure it's by design, but this is the slowest rail construction project that's ever taken place surely? Almost 3 years to get to this still not finished stage :)
