    "Abolish the railways!" (The Spectator)

And before he points out that it's easier for him to get Birmingham Airport, these trains also call at the adjacent station where parking is cheaper than at the airport.

Comment piece in Passenger Transport - "The railway risks becoming irrelevant"

It's interesting, almost psychologically, that people only quote the fuel cost of using their car. And that they are commuting at the same fuel economy as on a long journey (not helped by quoting that in mpg but buying it in litres) After all, at £400 for 20k miles, your tyres are costing...

But when one member of the household is using the car, the others have no access.

ASLEF accept (subject to members agreement) 5% Scotrail Pay Offer

The Scottish media (overwhelming opposed to the snp ) are referring to this as a cave-in and are predicting that all other public sector workers will demand at least as much.

ASLEF accept (subject to members agreement) 5% Scotrail Pay Offer

Before the industrial action it was apparent that Saturday was the busiest day of the working week and Monday was the quietest. Transport Scotland believe that there is a need for more trains on Sundays so they will be keen to have more crew available.

If this land is disused, won't it have been passed via the Residuary Board to Highways England?

The figure of 2% refers to all journeys. If you restrict it to journeys over, say 50 km, then the railway share is higher. Much higher.

    ECML Disruption 04/06/2022

I feel that more use could be made of driving under caution (or whatever the technical term is). For a start, the driver could report sightings of the person. Obviously if it's someone on a bridge, or there's another reason to switch off the power that's different.

Passengers ‘terrorised’ by youths on Platty Joobs Thameslink service.

Stories of young people behaving disgracefully and the reactions of law-abiding citizens to said activities, go back to the Middle Ages.

    Substantive bus service withdrawals post-Covid

The Scotsman is reporting today that the Scottish Bus operators are warning the Scottish Government that the ending of continuing support, expected at the end of July, will result in a substantial culling of routes and services and/or a significant rise in fares. Numbers are still 25 % down.

    Scottish Citylink

it's possible that it's even on contract to scotrail. There have been several Shiel Bus coaches alongside the station this week, and the timings match a missing train (and the southbound service connects into the Sleeper )

Clearance work was required to allow the 153s on tothe WHL. AIUI this work also cleared the route for 158s. I'm not sure if the work was completed to FW and Mallaig

ASLEF accept (subject to members agreement) 5% Scotrail Pay Offer

How much will Sunak's largesse offset the inflation in energy prices and so what staff need to maintain their living standards? I guess it will mainly go to the lower paid grades so ASLEF members lose out.

    Hospital bus services

What? The Edinburgh bus network is largely organised around 3 major destinations. Two are shopping /entertainment /work (Ocean Terminal and Gyle) but the third is Edinburgh Royal infirmary. Almost all services in the SE of the city terminate there or at least pass through it. Including two...
