Outside parts of Glasgow, rail plays a minor role in transporting the public. I would be surprised if there is any noticeable effect on road congestion.

BTW, how many different operators are there in the Edinburgh tour market? In one journey through Edinburgh at the weekend we saw at least 4 liveries, Inc, Brightbus, but I wasn't sure if some of these referred to different tour routes rather than different companies.

As far as I know Scotrail had no difficulty in recruiting extra staff, it's the training which is the holdup.

Most scotrail units are through gangwayed and so have small driver spaces. Impossible to maintain any legal spacing between driver and trainee. At least that's what Abellio were saying.

Scotrail were well aware pre-covid of the fact that many drivers were approaching retiral and had recruited several cohorts of trainees whose training got frozen. These trainees have now begun their training on real trains along real routes. This requires experienced drivers etc, leaving many...

Surely the problem is that having nationalised scotrail they can't award them a larger increase than any other worker in the public sector.

Bus lanes are not only for buses. Also cycles, taxis and in the future electric scooter.

Fort William to Glasgow. Bus is about 3 hours, train nearly 40 minutes longer. Inverness to Kyle , bus 2hr 8m. Train nearly 2 40.
