Absolutely. I was in my local travel centre on Saturday and was discussing split tickets with the very helpful lady behind the desk. Basically, she said that she will not, by default, offer split tickets but will supply the details if the customer asks.

Level crossing is still there - with barriers believe it or not. Also since the railway came first and importantly was never actually closed - just mothballed - the legal rights of the railway come first. Basically the road crosses the railway and not the other way round.
Actually somebody with a rather weak grasp of both geography and railways proposed just that a few years ago. When it was pointed out that it required a 3 mile tunnel through the Berwyns it sort of died ....

The Cambrian is always a good bet ... 2 1/4 hours to cover the 57 miles from Mach to Pwllheli .... Just over 25 mph. This must be the slowest for any service that travels a reasonable distance!
