I was simply wondering how much it has cost to rebuild a station that has less than a thousand entrances and exits a year and whether the money could have been spent better elsewhere.

Then gently amble back to Talsarnau and get the train from there .... 2Km ....

Given that Penrhyndeudraeth is about 1km away (as the crow flies), it does seem to me to be a missed opportunity to save a bit of dosh!

Well just checked ... on average in 2013 there were less than 3 people a day who used it ! ( 998 entries and exits ....) Llandecwyn 1,906 (2010-2011 entries and exits) 1,418 (2012-2013) 998 (2012-2013)

May I ask a simple question? Why bother? If they had taken the opportunity to close it would anybody actually have noticed?

The obvious thing to do to that railway is to electrify it all the way from Bristol through to the ECML. This becomes even more important with the upgrade of the GWR main line to S Wales and it seems that it is one of the few remaining strategic routes ( yes I am well aware that there are plenty...

Given that 500 car parking spaces will be built, I strongly expect that the traffic situation around Whittington ( an already horrible junction ) will just get worse.

The station could generate considerable extra traffic as people switch their commuting patterns from using the city centre stations to Parkway. This could include extra traffic coming from Malvern. The whole point of the new station is that it is a "Parkway" .....

It might easily cause a major impact on the traffic. The key bottleneck of the southern link road ( Carrington Bridge) is not being dualled and if there is any increase of traffic due to people attempting to get to the station from the west side of the river then there could be problems.

Thanks for the information. Yes I have asked/suggested that people leave that seat and given the reason. Last time I was told to "f*ck off" ....

Not if there are selfish b*stards who won't move. THAT is my point. And please don't suggest finding the train manager. That is rather defeating the object of the exercise. Anyway: back to the question. How can I make late seat reservations?

As I said: you just try and get people to move. A case of "J'y suis,j'y reste"
