How long have you been at your metro depot ?

    360 running speed

I would think they will so as not to hold up 125 mph class 810s when they come into service. On a separate note 110 mph class 387s are still restricted to 100 mph on the ECML.

About Elizabeth line speeds on the GEML

Do you ever get to use the main (fast lines) I remember once I was on a 378 which ran non stop Norwood jct to New Cross Gate partly on the fasts. Very rare.

About Elizabeth line speeds on the GEML

20 mph temporary /emergency speed limits seem to take forever to remove on suburban lines. But on intercity routes such as the ECML they don’t stay for long !

Avanti London to Glasgow Record Attempt 07/05/2025

And yet they have 4*220 kW motors per driving vehicle - in 4 car formation theoretically less power to weight than a 350 or 387 and yet they are super quick.

Avanti London to Glasgow Record Attempt 07/05/2025

Wallyford most likely but you’d need to be hard on the brakes for Musselburgh which is on a bend and has a 95 mph PSR.

Avanti London to Glasgow Record Attempt 07/05/2025

135 mph at Musselburgh is impossible.

Avanti London to Glasgow Record Attempt 07/05/2025

Didn’t that 91 spend a significant amount of time above 125 mph ? Pendolinos are restricted to that speed.

Why does the nonstop Kings Cross to York not feel like a fast train?

It’s that sort of thought process that I believe has kept the maximum line speed on Anglia services out of Liverpool Street to 100 mph and that speed isn’t available until around Chelmsford ! Is it worth it for the Javelin trains on HS1 to do 140 mph when so little time is saved and they can...

Avanti London to Glasgow Record Attempt 07/05/2025

I’m a PCV driver. The 62 mph speed and outside lane ban is a massive hindrance. 7h36 came out in the route calculator. A stop at the services has to be made to change drivers on top of that.

Why does the nonstop Kings Cross to York not feel like a fast train?

It would be nice if higher speeds could be implemented on future ETCS signalled sections. Right now 80x is limited to approx 123 mph with class 91, 180 and 220 able to attain the actual 125 mph limit.

Why does the nonstop Kings Cross to York not feel like a fast train?

Wasn’t it an overall limit of 75 mph in Scotland at that time ? Anyhow I’m comparing it to the WCML - is there a lot more - 125 south of Carstairs ?

Why does the nonstop Kings Cross to York not feel like a fast train?

Only very short lengths of 125 mph line speed in Scotland. 115 usual max at prestonpans and a brief 120 possible after drem and Dunbar . Apart from that line speeds mostly in 95 mph range in Scotland.

Why does the nonstop Kings Cross to York not feel like a fast train?

Digswell viaduct a major problem almost a certainty to get checked down in both directions. 125 mph Woolmer Green but 120 through Offord then down to 105/100 through Holme. High chance of getting checked down through Peterborough due to great northern crossing to P2. Level crossings in Helpston...

Paid-for cab rides, would they be allowed in the UK?

Heritage railways do cab rides don’t they ? Apologies if this has been mentioned before.

Paid-for cab rides, would they be allowed in the UK?

What’s the difference between passengers having a front seat view in a coach and of the driver compared with a train ? My other answer is WiFi access to forward facing cctv. Then you can get a view regardless of where you are on the train.

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

It might do - but all it requires is the default setting on login to be 110. It should still be able to be increased to 125 in the normal way. For example if a driver logs out and a new driver logs in on changeover it defaults back to 125. It could be 110 to make things simpler. The speed...

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

Might be an idea to have it default to 110 mph when logging in since it can’t be turned off.

Are they hard wired for 110 mph max ?
