    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

But surely MAGA is the Republicans, what other choice of direction do they have that the base wouldn't turn "rabid" about?

Why are Class 700s considered unpopular?

They were designed in an era, pre-covid where passenger numbers would continue to rise exponentially, therefore maximum space and as long a train as possible was designed, with maximum " crush" loading as possible. In addition to this the interior fit was ordered to be as cheap as possible by...

Why are Class 700s considered unpopular?

No vestibles between coaches, so more space to cram even more people in if necessary.

    Abandoned stock

There was a lone OBA in rail freight livery in Welwyn Garden City yard for 15+ years, then one day it was gone.

    2023 Israel - Hamas / Hezbollah war

He thinks without an external threat pulling his people together people might start thinking about his leadership and he lose power. If that happens it's a short step to a trial and jail. He wants to avoid that at all costs so distracts with any crisis he can, often making it worst for his own ends.

Reopened Okehampton line - travel experiences

Are they putting the roof back or just repairing and making safe the actual bridge itself?

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Fair point, I just wondered if they could use it sometimes to help, as Tuesday and Thursday evening peak this week was a total disaster! 1752216277 They used to do a in out loaded both ways at Baldock a while a go in the evening peak ( it was dark so I guess winter).

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Being selfish, why do they always stop or turn back at Letchworth? Baldock has the crossover and I do remember they used to turn back there in regular service on occasion a while ago, but now it doesn't seem to be used at all now?

MML Electrification: is it going to be completed?

Knock on effect, I guess of building the GWML, out of what appears to be solid gold and unobtainium, ( and HS 2 collosal overspend) making politicians very very shy of cost over runs and expense at the moment.

Signal failure south of Cambridge (10/7/25) - no trains from London

Tuesday was an absolute nightmare as well ( over an hour late) , doesn't seem to be any recovery built or ( or available) when things go wrong on this route.

Signal failure south of Cambridge (10/7/25) - no trains from London

I got a Peterborough and currently waiting at Hitchin in the vain hope of something to Cambridge ( trying to get to Baldock) 17:53 runs to Letchworth , so they may be turning back from there. One was signed to Royston but it's been listed as delayed for a while

    Reform UK discussion

We have a huge ( and growing ) aging population, who are non- productive. We need every single young boat immigrant to come here , get a job and pay tax to keep the system running- don't we???? (partially in jest).

Overshoot at MKC - 9th May

    Tap in/out yellow readers- Farringdon

Baldock has them as well, I have no idea of their purpose, especially when there are posters everywhere saying Oyster cards are not accepted at this station ??

Passengers stranded after being let off train for fresh air

I have never heard of people being let off for "air" or whatever in 40+ years of using trains. Does it happen often?

Could Meldon Quarry stone trains start again?

Does Network rail own all the track up to the buffer stops at the quarry? Or only to the end of Okehampton platform? It may be too expensive for the quarry company to renew the track , therefore some tarmac and lorry/tipper hire is more cheaper?
