Our new ticketing site is now live! Using either this or the original site (both powered by TrainSplit) helps support the running of the forum with every ticket purchase! Find out more and ask any questions/give us feedback in this thread!
Am I right in saying that the central booking system - where the availability is actually controlled - is really limited in terms of what information it offers to ticket retailing sites? eg you can't do something obvious like "tell me the availability in all the advance ticket buckets for this...
They are completely wrong. A point-to-point season ticket, such as you have, allows travel between any station pair that form any part of a permitted route between the stations named on the season ticket. In places near London, where there is a forest of lines and permitted routes, this makes...
Here are some places (the blue indicators) convenient to Richmond station where you can buy Oyster cards:
I might suggest you could do with raising your 'outrage' bar...
If you upload an image of the letter you have received - with personal details redacted - the forum would be able to offer suitable advice. I'll just note this:
Or else what, do they say?
If this 'just' happened then you don't need to register. Head to https://contactless.tfl.gov.uk/ and pop open the 'contactless' thing on the right, you'll see a link for '7 day journey and payment history'. That should cover you.
If you do go on to register the card, you'll find the last 13...
One data point: On Jan 4th during Storm Henk SWR said to use any train with an Advance ticket(that's not me, just an example tweet). I got a train half an hour earlier than the one my Advance ticket was for; the train I actually got was delayed by 15-29 minutes, and I claimed and received Delay...
What a horrible screen. I've tried it out myself and as far as I can tell, NOWHERE does it actually explain what you are buying.
The cheaper one is a season between Teddington and Vauxhall (I think, but I haven't checked, that the only permitted routes here would be either way round the loop to...
I'm looking forward to a flood of posts from everyone who has ever said "of course GBR will sort all this out", or words to that effect... not holding my breath though
Depending on the specifics of how your plans tend to change, there are a small number of retailers who offer fee-free changes to Advances. I know of Railsmartr and CrossCountry; there may be others.
"Changes" here means: if, before the date of travel on an Advance ticket, you book another...
I've read the Routeing Guide and the forum's Guide and I'm still confused.
Consider Shaun from Shanklin (Isle of Wight) who wants a single to Birmingham New Street. Two plans immediately come to mind:
1) get to the mainland (Portsmouth) by his choice of sea transport; SWR to London Waterloo...
Everyone's getting themselves all confused when in fact it's really very easy!
Any negative consequence that befalls someone who did something I wouldn't do is down to stupidity and a lack of personal responsibility.

I don't believe so, no. As noted in #810, there are a number of already-accepting-contactless stations for which the cap prices don't appear to be published, so who knows...
For stations beyond zone 9 where contactless is available, cap prices can be found here https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/find-fares/national-rail-fares-beyond-zone-9 . I imagine this page will be updated as new stations are launched.
