Something I've not seen discussed here yet: when TfL closed its ticket offices, and moved the staff out into the public side of the station, those staff were given dedicated tablets and/or access to staff-only function on TVMs, so that every function that previously *required* a ticket office...

It's already the case that the time at which the morning peak (for capping purposes, but not for charging purposes) ends can vary by location, as shown here on MikeWh's site. It's "left as an exercise for the reader" to speculate whether this list of exceptions might be extended with Oval, or not.

What exact ticket are you buying? If it's an undiscounted adult day return, you might as well just routinely use contactless, then there's no issue as to where you start your journey home from.

Just because there are Advances defined in the fares database doesn't mean you would necessarily be able to buy them, though. It's up to the TOCs which buckets they release on which services, and I daresay there are services that never have the cheapest, or perhaps indeed any, buckets released.
