I've been pondering this. How does revenue sharing work for advance tickets, and how are the prices agreed?
As an example, there are some quite cheap advances available from Greater Anglia stations to South Eastern stations. The fare setter according to brfares.com is GA.
So how are the prices...
Booked onto the Night Riviera to St Austell this coming Monday. Had issues with the GWR website so did it via their call centre.
Agent offered me a single cabin but I elected to save 20 quid and take the risk of sharing.
On my ticket I'm in berth 7L. Looking at the berth plan on the GWR website...
Hi,
After some advice for a triangular journey. I need to get to St Austell or Par for Tuesday late morning. I then need to be in Hull the following morning, so probably travelling up on Tuesday afternoon/evening.
From Hull I will return to East Anglia on Wednesday afternoon.
I can...
Seen the same driver a few times now on EMR. Pulls up at Sleaford, sticks his head out the window and announces "Spalding and Peterborough". Get out of the can and stands by the can door thanking everyone getting off and welcoming those boarding.
Does this at every stop. Right jolly looking chap...
My wife and I are thinking of booking onto this. The information tells us only that it picks up and drops off at Norwich and Ipswich, but no mention of what actual route it follows.
Had a look on RTT and it's not showing there yet.
I assume it's either to Liverpool Street and back via the GEML...

Oh I dunno. There's a couple of Deltics available. The 91s might be available for short term hire before they go abroad. Class 86, some 67s. Fund the...
Today whilst waiting at Baker Street, I noticed a purple lamp light up right at the start of the running tunnel. It seemed to come on briefly as the train entered the far end of the platform, and was extinguished before it came to a halt.
The lamp itself looked like a single aspect LU style...
I had an advance ticket Liverpool Street to Diss. I'd booked myself on the 1530 but somehow got into my head the 1500 was my train. Despite at least 2 announcements prior to departure that penalty fare apply and to ensure that any "specific train only" tickets were for this train I neglected to...
Which do you think are really well managed stations on the network, and why?
I'm going to start by nominating Ely. Busy interchange and junction station, but always plenty of staff around. Staff always seem very cheery and friendly and look after people needing assistance well.
Plenty of clear...
Anybody know why 2 GBRF 73s were at Papworth sidings today? Parked up on one of the roads containing Mk3s. Never seen 73s round these parts.
Also caught a glimpse of the class 43 in original blue and yellow livery. Looed like it had been thoroughly cleaned and looked marvellous!
A couple of observations form my attempt to buy tickets for tomorrow. As I was passing the station anyway today I thought I'd buy them rather than my usual buy online and collect, because the TVM is unreliable and I just know one day it's not going to be working when I arrive for my train (it's...
So, Diss to Cardiff today. Had seats booked out of Paddington but it's a flexible ticket and I decided to travel earlier so I can get to bed at a sensible time.
Arrived at Diss to hear an announcement that there had been a fatality (that was the wording used) further down the line and that if...
I have off peak return tickets from Diss to Cardiff. I now need to travel at different times than I had planned.
I know GA have waived the peak restrictions for trains out of Liverpool Street during the school holidays, but I'm less up to speed on the GWR side of things.
I've followed the advice...
Bear with me, I've not gone mad but here's a very technical question...
Do class 90s make a lot of particulates? Either from brakes or traction motor brush wear or something else?
Reason is ask is twofold. One, whenever I see one pass, it's not uncommon to see it enveloped in a sort of greyish...
As per the question really.i don't mean obvius things like leasing rolling stock etc. More what are the prerequisites?
Can literally anyone ask Network Rail/ORR for some paths or do the management of the new OA operation have to have certain experience and/or competencies?
Travelling to/from Glasgow last week in daylight for the first time since I was a little kid (all other times have been on the sleeper), I spotted something that intrigued me and o wondered if the forum might satisfy my interest...
Just south of the bridge over the Clyde, in the Y of the...
I can't decide. It's a toss up between the completely knackered seat cushions and the ridiculous recorded announcement advertising some WiFi service which end with "...aaaah, that's better!". No, it's just irritating hearing it after every single stop!
They really do need a minor refresh on the...
Example. Diss to Birmingham New Street via London and Glasgow Central to Diss via London.
Can't remember which way round I ended up doing it, but one ticket I got from GA, and the other from Raileasy.
I think the former one I could only get an advance from GA. Which sort of might make sense but...
Currently on my way to Liverpool Street. After the Manningtree stop, on my way back from the buffet, I was accosted by a panicked young man. He'd boarded to go the Colchester for his A Levels and had realised this train was non stop to London.
Confirmed that this was the case with me, he was...
