A couple of observations form my attempt to buy tickets for tomorrow. As I was passing the station anyway today I thought I'd buy them rather than my usual buy online and collect, because the TVM is unreliable and I just know one day it's not going to be working when I arrive for my train (it's an unstaffed station).
1. The TVM crashed when I was inputting a ticket to start from Spalding (split ticket). A Windows message informed me that the "user interface module" had crashed. Blue screen and then after a while the machine rebooted.
On my second attempt I got further, and it then crashed when I changed the departure date to tomorrow. At this point I gave up and drove home.
In between those 2 attempts I tried to buy an Attleborough to Spalding ticket for tomorrow, only to discover the TVM doesn't accent American Express. Their website sales channel does though.

Incidentally, I tried calling the number on the TVM when it went on the blink. I got 10 options to choose from, none of which were for help with a TVM. Chose the most general sounding option which just connected me to National Rail Enquiries. Figuring they'd be as useless as a chocolate tea pot for this situation I just hung up.

2. Why when booking multiple journeys on their website do I get multiple ticket collection references to punch into the TVM? Why don't/can't they do the same as railways/trainsplit and put all the tickets under the same collection reference?

The whole set up just feels a bit random and bodged together. Do all of the Scheid and Bachmann TVMs crash like this or is it something specific to GA or the particular machine?

Edit: Mods feel free to move if this is in the wrong forum.

I've used various Scheidt & Bachmann TVMs loads, and can't recall ever having problems with them crashing.
