Between Hunts Cross and Central yes.
Given the amount of work needed to get the site of the old St James station up to scratch and ready for Liverpool Baltic is significant, so I believe it could be closed for months.
The weather may appear better but there has been a magnitude more icing across a lot of the region, with some residential roads entirely iced leading to a number of bumps and accidents. I can't imagine that the cold rails and power rail fared much differently.
Conditions are very icy this morning, and that's being reflected in near-chaos already. Two trains stuck on their way to Hunts Cross which has then ensnared the de-icing train behind them.
EDIT: Just to say, I understand this is entirely a physics problem, not a 777 problem.
It probably also helps that the air is extremely dry at the moment (dew point is down in the -5°C region), though that will change tomorrow with the dew point rising back up to 2°C meaning much more humid air and snow forecast around the start of service.
There's only so much you can do about physics. The 777s probably have better wheelslip/wheelslide protection, and they have better protections from third-rail welding, but ice is ice...
This is an absolutely puzzling statement. Surely Stadler have a reasonably "off the shelf" implementation of ADSO that doesn't require trains to be running on different software versions? It feels like Stadler have a lot to answer for with the 777s.
Drivers haven't been trained yet, due to not having enough units available for normal service (so none free at all to do training runs) as well as a lack of drivers/driver trainers to actually perform the training. As far as I understand, the trackside equipment is in place at Cressington.
Maybe Merseyrail need to review their archaic stance of only employing drivers who have served time as guards first. I believe they're the only TOC to still do this?
A few saw this issue straight away, but I wasn't convinced it'd be an issue... I've come to dislike the end carriages being single-door. It's very noticeable at busier stations that the two inner carriages have finished unloading and loading while people are still piling into the single door at...
Well this is extremely disappointing. If the intention is now to keep this as the new "normal", how much money has been wasted in training and lineside equipment for SDO at places like Cressington only for it to be given up on? It would certainly seem this is ME just giving up on 8 cars down to...
The reversion of Southport/Ormskirk lines is still - surprisingly - showing as 5th Jan 2026 on RTT. I'm honestly surprised it's not been pushed back yet, given we're only 7 weeks out.
Now departed and on onward journey towards Carlisle, approaching Plumpton Loop as I type. Great news the train was able to be rerailed and moved so quickly.
It's back in its usual place this morning, now with missing headlights! I guess they've been donated to 010 as mentioned above.
Edit: Train stop to door release times are still shocking. On my journey this morning I counted in my head that at every stop the wait time was anywhere from 3-11...
