Already mentioned around the Liverpool area is Fazakerly (fa-ZAK-er-lee), and I think even the PIS systems on Merseyrail had the wrong pronunciation of "Maghull" and "Maghull North" recorded for a while (often said as "MAG-hull" for those unfamiliar, but is pronounced as "ma-GULL").
Unfortunately, stick-in-the-mud excuses like this are the reason we're stuck with a stupid mix of units. We'll just start going to the pub for "a half" (500ml) instead of pint, it doesn't need to be any more complicated than that. Add in the fact that the longer we wait, the more expensive it...
Are there any CoViD considerations in the mix for the delays too? On my daily rail journey past Kirkdale this morning, I noticed the 777s don't have opening windows, something which is being encouraged on the 507/508s in the interests of ventilation (but also being ignored as the cold mornings...
Further power issues this morning - entire Kirkby line operations suspended at the moment, and Ormskirk branch only running to Town Green due to flooding at Ormskirk.
Sorry, just a layman with a moderate interest in the railways. Looking at the diagram in #56 and the latest picture from the BBC article I'd mistakenly believed the second train was the one approaching via the junction rather than proceeding straight. I suppose that makes it an even scarier...
Very glad to see there have been "only" injuries in this collision. I must say, that must have been an awful sight for the second train's driver to come around and see the rear of that train, one would imagine he thought the worst. Is there a low speed limit over that junction, out of curiosity?
Hopefully some of the funding will be used to pay for/sort out the guard/DOO disputes and get the 777s into action - unless there's some kind of stipulation the funding is used on "new" projects.
Thanks very much for the info, very interesting.
On the 507/508s, it's getting a bit embarrassing now that almost every day Merseyrail are tweeting about cancelled services due to train faults.
Getting back on topic slightly, I've noticed when I've been in a 6-car train (2 x 3-car) that acceleration in particular is a little.. "bumpy", almost as though the two sets are having a little fight until the speed picks up. Are the units just not that great at syncing their power output or am...
It's certainly a shame going past the lovely new 777s sat in Kirkdale every morning! Hopefully Merseyrail are close to ending the DOO/guard issue and getting the 777s out there.
This thread has made for interesting reading. As I've just today started commuting with Merseyrail, it'd be great to see the new trains in service as soon as possible.
Hi all,
Is anyone else still 'awaiting shortlisting'? I applied on the 8th Aug, so quite late in the listing. A bit disheartened to see people have already sat the assessments.
Is anyone else going for their SCAAT test in Manchester on 5th August? I applied back in April and have only just heard back.
Just out of curiosity what are the second round of tests?
