Why can cinemas open but not theatres?

It’s not the seating....theatres can open if they show a pre recorded performance.

Air bridges with European countries given "green light"

I really don’t understand the clamour and urgency. I have no desire to go on any holiday, home or abroad, in the midst of all this. Summer 2021 is the very earliest I’d consider it, and to be honest even that depends on how things pan out.

The Times: “Don’t eat or drink on train journeys” (despite eating/drinking being allowed)

They are stating face coverings will be mandatory even though it will be compartment stock only, which is exempt in the legislation if used by the same group exclusively. I can only assume they don’t want many passengers.

The Times: “Don’t eat or drink on train journeys” (despite eating/drinking being allowed)

The answer is, nobody cares, because it’s not related to the virus. Any medical problem that isn’t the virus is of no interest to anyone at the moment.

    Can we afford another lockdown?

I agree with the principle, however the issue is that those business that have opened are mostly trading way below normal levels. So if furlough is not available to them for at least some of their staff, those staff will be made redundant immediately.

Does the Government know how people are behaving

Don't believe the press hype - the vast majority of people are doing their best to comply with the regulations and this is factored into calculations.

Does the Government know how people are behaving

Odd thing. The weather the past two days is such that the last place I'd want to be anywhere near is a beach! A big walk in fridge - that's where I'd want to be. I like beaches in the depths of winter when they are windswept, cold, big crashing waves and there's not another soul for miles. Bliss!

    Can we afford another lockdown?

They won't instigate another full lockdown. What I wish they would do, is delay the opening of pubs for another few weeks at least. I am the furthest from a 'locktivist' that you could get, but I do think end of July / early August would be safer for reopening pubs. I was hoping they'd have...

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

We’ve stopped caring about environmental issues now, because it isn’t the deadly killer virus.

Kent & East Sussex Railway Re-opening Survey

I will state again though, if going on a heritage railway involves wearing a muzzle, I won't be going. Sorry. And this is one of my major hobbies so I don't say that lightly. I'll continue to support the ones I am a member of by remaining a member, but in terms of being a paying passenger - nope.

Kent & East Sussex Railway Re-opening Survey

If it's compartment stock and the compartment is reserved for members of the same family the mask rule doesn't apply. There's an exemption for that in the regulations in England. You will need one to walk down the corridor to get to your compartment though. Unless you want to chance not being...

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

Quite, but some people seem to revel in making a huge loud and entirely deliberate noise which involves the mouth opening and it's all a big theatre. It annoys the heck out of me.

Discussion of July 4 changes in England announced by Boris Johnson

It is enough to keep me out of them. Handing over contact details is just facilitating the government being able to give you an arbitrary 14 day prison sentence, albeit served under house arrest, at a moment's notice. No thanks!

Discussion of July 4 changes in England announced by Boris Johnson

That's easy...tell people to get changed into their trunks at home and then walk to...err...perhaps I've not really thought this one through....

Discussion of July 4 changes in England announced by Boris Johnson

Yes it's the sensible way forward, for now. A good step towards getting rid of it entirely at some point. I shall however stick with my own personal 10m rule. I don't like people and thus used the virus as an excuse to move from keeping 5m from everyone else, as I used to, to 10m. Bliss! :)

How effective are the daily COVID-19 Press Conferences?

Then all you'd get is "stay at home, stay at home, stay at home" coming back again.

How effective are the daily COVID-19 Press Conferences?

I'd rather have Jenny Harries than Chris Whitty actually. Harries seems to have some notion of balancing medical needs with the need for life to carry on, whereas Whitty seems to focus purely on the science and would have us under house arrest for life if he could. At least that's how he comes...

Coronavirus precautions: Has the world gone mad?

Yes, sorry, bad wording. Food shops are seen as essential and can open, whereas tourist attractions aren't and can't.

Coronavirus precautions: Has the world gone mad?

This is entirely right. As if they are NOT running an essential food operation, the only thing it can be is a tourist attraction, which shouldn't be open. As frustrating as it is, I would urge supporting them rather than castigating them. They are kind of stuck at the moment. It will get easier...

Coronavirus precautions: Has the world gone mad?

The problem was, if you pointed that out, you tended to get something like "well my uncle's brother works on the NHS front line and he says there's people under 50 dying of this STAY AT HOME EVERYONE FFS WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE". This type of response is still happening even now. It has to stop.
