Cancer patients sent home to die, people with strokes/heart attacks advised not to attend A&E (well they were initially and that seems to have stuck)...
The problem is, there is no legal exemption for eating and drinking. You cannot remove your mask to eat or drink, nor for any other reason.
Telling someone "it's ok, the authorities will turn a blind eye to that" simply isn't good enough.
And what is the 'short period of time'? There isn't one specified in this new ruling.
As others have pointed out, many of the hysterical security overreactions that were introduced at airports and elsewhere after 9/11, are still with us nearly 20 years later.
A bit off topic but the shops plan was always mooted for 15th June, just as hospitality is currently mooted for 4th July.
Yes they probably timed the official confirmation to deflect attention but the basic timing was already planned.
I don’t know where the ONS discrepancy comes from because once we started including non hospital deaths in the daily figures, the figures from previous periods were retrospectively added in. So that “headline” figure of 35,000 deaths (or whatever it currently is) actually includes them all...

Though, only as far as Ipstone these days. The track between Ipstones and Cauldon Lowe was lifted a couple of years ago, for reasons that are never fully explained. Cauldon Lowe has been airbrushed from history. See also the Froghall to Oakamoor section.
