Im a bit sceptical on this bit, I must admit. There are huge numbers of viruses that can cause things like dry coughs and a fever. An ordinary cold can do this. I suspect a lot of the people with mild symptoms but who test negative, actually have a cold or something similar.

I'm certainly a realist and in favour of opening up as quickly as possible, but I'm certainly not "don't care". I'm being very cautious and making sure I don't take unnecessary risks, but with the caveat that I want life to get back to normal ASAP.

That won't work. All they seem to be doing is making space for cycling. I'm sorry but for the vast majority, cycling is not an alternative to either the car or public transport. Most people live too far away, and plus it's a nice idea in the height of summer, let's see how many keep it up in...

Ok, so we all stay locked in our houses indefinitely to make sure we don't get the virus. Since that is what you seem to be advocating. How do we fund society? Assuming everyone thinks living like that is actually worth living at all.

This of course is their right, as long as they can finance it themselves and don't expect everyone to pay for their silly rock-hiding shenangians. Again I suspect much of this is borne of people not realising that being on benefits isn't quite the easy ride the press often make it out to be.

I'm delighted they are reopening. Sadly I fear I can predict what's going to happen and (with enormous regret since this is my 'local' railway), if it involves wearing masks and covering historic carriages with yellow and black nuclear hazard tape, I won't be going near. :(

Given that we now have a national, state-sanctioned campaign to bully people OFF public transport, that air quality will be worse than before this started within weeks.

As I'm fond of saying, even if we have, nobody will care because NOTHING matters now except the virus. If people are more likely now to die in blazing infernos - we don't care, because that's not a Covid-19 deaths. Only Covid-19 deaths matter now in the UK.

Quite. We've gone from bullying and lecturing overweight people, to not caring if they die.

Absolutely appalling, and symptomatic of the officially sanctioned bullying and intimidation of the general public as a result of this virus.

People have to get to work and thanks to successive governments most people have to travel some distance to get to to their job. Cycling seven miles to work might (to some) sound appealing at this time of year. Come back to me in December and see how it feels.

That's ridiculous. Before all this, I strenuously avoided catching colds as far as possible. For various reasons. However, I still carried on life normally. And I still caught a few, but probably fewer than I might have done without being careful. I wouldn't have deliberately infected myself...

"Sacrifices need to be made"....but by other people, not him! That's how it is for the majority of lockdown fundamentalists.
