Travelling first class on a standard ticket

I find it amazing that First Capital Connect is slammed so much for not being customer friendly because we do not allow standard class tickets in First Class and they only have small first class compartments. EMT had 3 carriages of First Class and they did not declassify! Anyway back to the...

You do not have to say anything but...

Revenue Protection Inspectors are trained in PACE and can and should caution at the time an offence is detected. The difference between what the Police say and what RPI's say is that the RPI should tell the person that they are not under arrest and are free to leave at any time.

Is it advisable to offer to settle out of court by phone?

In response to an earlier question. "Why wasn't he allowed to pay the fare from Elstree to St Albans." The Oyster card is only valid ticket to Elstree if either it has a 1-6 travel card pre loaded onto it or is touched out at Elstree. A lot of people will for example touch in at St Pancras...

Carnet fine. St Neots to London KX

Ah yet again Carnet tickets the bain of the revenue departments lives. I agree boxes should have been added and when I see this incorrectly printed tickets I will generally advise the passenger that they still need to write the date on even if the box isn't printed. You definitely have a case...

Notice of Intention to Prosecute - FCC

I tend to find the situation goes a lot like this.. I tell them I have to charge a penalty fare. Passenger responds with... I'm not paying that and then refuses to even give money for the fare. You then explain that if you will not pay I have to take your details and the company will write to...

    priv tube fares

I once enquired at a underground booking office. They said the couldn't do priv travel cards but could sell priv single journeys. They didn't specify safe guarded or not.

    An example of court outcome,

You wouldn't believe how many people refuse to pay for tickets even if the are is only £3. Plus a lot lie about where they have come from and just give the last stop. I always try and explain to people to at least pay for the journey and I will issue a part paid penalty fare most of the time but...

Wrongly accused of overwritten carnet by FCC

These carnet tickets are such a pain in the arse. Some times people start trying to write a date on with a biro and it won't work so they go over with another pen, which may look like its been altered. Really they need some kind of franking machine near station entrances/gatelines that stamps...

Oyster validators at Elstree & Borehamwood.

On the gateline unless the station building is closed in which case there is a side gate with oyster validators just outside.

    Could someone clarify please...

I'm assuming she had arrived at Bedford with a freedom pass and was being sold the extension? She probably knows there is a super off peak fare available from Bedford at weekends and that is why she didn't purchase the extension before travelling and if she can convince revenue staff to sell...

    1st Class Watch?

I quite enjoy doing first class checks as you can sometimes get a confrontation between the people with the 1st class gold card and the person with a std class gold card occupying the seat. I had a guy with std ticket saying " I pay £3500 a year bla bla bla." Was refusing to pay a penalty or...

Gold Card £5 first class upgrades

I googled it and found the explanation on national rail. I've tried to work out how I would issue it on my avantex machine... No success.

Gold Card £5 first class upgrades

Are these available on all TOCs? Do they have to be purchased in advance? I've never been told about them and I'm an RPI! I've never heard my colleagues talk about them either.

    16-25 Minimum Fare - dispute

It's common practice too excess the ticket. Have had people doing this on a persistent basis. Which has resulted in a statement being taken under caution and sent off to prosecution but as a one off mistake the excess fare is the "norm" where I work.

    Middle lane driving: your views?

Basically everyone should drive in the left hand lane unless over taking slower moving traffic. Might have worked well in the 60's / 70's when there was less traffic. What's the point of having 3 lanes and only using 1? Oh and if that's the case why do they bother widening to 4 lanes to ease...

    Testing experience at Paddington

Can I just ask why you have a series of unused open returns? How do you normally get back from these places you get to?

    Bedford > 'London Terminals'

where did you buy the original ticket from? I have spoken to a passenger before who had a Leicester to Bedford season ticket but wanted an extension to Blackfriars. He tried in Leicester and they "couldn't" sell it too him. I'm not sure if this was to do with a setting on the computer or if they...

Did not touch in on Oyster

When you say you were "issued with a caution". I think what happened is that you WERE cautioned. By cautioning you the officer was reminding you that anything you say from that point on can be used as evidence. It is not a caution in terms of if you are arrested and they let you off with a...
