As posted on the ticket forum I'm looking to get down to Cornwall for my summer hols for as cheap as possible & noticed it's only a tenner to get from London to Exeter by South West Trains using a Megatrain booking (if booked well in advance). Has anyone made this journey before and how does it...
Travelling down to Cornwall to meet my family for a holiday in July and have been taken aback by how much the fare might be so trying to figure out the cheapest way to get there.
Reckon it'll be around £60 each way using a combination of advance fares via AXC or EC & FGW but would need to book...
I am a mature student with about 12 months left of my university course. My 16-25 expired about 6 months ago and need a new one for all my summer travelling. I know being 29 I need to get a stamp on the application form from my university but does anyone know if I need a new passport photo taken...
Does the loop run some distance to the south as it'll take some minutes for these units to get up to top speed, so difficult to see how they could get 18tph onto the system without getting the stopping services upto speed on a loop before sending them in front of non-stopping services.
I can see the govt using investment in HS2 as an excuse not to invest in MML, even though it's 20 years away at least, and will only be beneficial for those living near EMA and Meadowhall & not the other towns and cities along the route.
The MML has been the cinderella mainline for far too...
Can anyone tell me why they have specified 10 x 26m car trains (260m in total) rather than 11 x 23m car trains (253m in total) or 13 x 20m car trains (260m in total) when it is going to mean a significant cost in gauging changes and might limit where the IEP can run?
I thought after the...
Sheffield is a really good example of how they have improved the walk from the station to the town centre (which used to be a nightmare).
Milton Keynes is officially in the city centre but it's really a mile up the hill to the main shopping area.
Darlington is a fair distance away, and the...
That would be my idea scenario too, high speed lines that bypass cities but new lines passing through (perhaps on old alignments or alongside existing alignments) the city centres so that stopping services serve the city but you can run quicker direct services too.
The fact they've been able...
Indeed, let's hope we don't see the MML starved of funding and the improvements it needs in the meantime. Electrification and capacity improvements are a must!
Indeed, the only direct tram line into Meadowhall originates near Hillsborough in the North West of the city centre and runs through the centre before going up the industrial Don Valley (which is mostly factories and sports facilities rather than housing) to Meadowhall itself. The other main...
I think Meadowhall makes sense as a through station, the danger for Sheffield (and even more so for Nottingham/Derby who's station looks like it'll be even more out of town, and Leicester even more so!) is that the MML is downgraded so they in effect see a worse service than they do today. The...
I remember seeing them fish up a dead fox near Baker St on the Metropolitan on that Tube programme. I wonder what the strangest animal ever to find it's way onto the tube was. We used to have a cat who tried to follow me everywhere when I was a kid living in Newcastle, including onto the Metro...
I know we've all probably seen some animal life or other while using the tube (mostly of the small furry and 4 legged kind), but was wondering if birds ever make it down onto the tube either through flying up the tunnels through the portals or by coming down from street level. What's the...
Would a better comparison between the Northern Hub and a London project be the superb Overground/ELL project (and current extension to Clapham Junction).
Though I really don't think it should be either/or. We need transport investment in both London and the regions?
Interesting topic... What about tram drivers? Someone on a run from Altrincham to Bury or Halfway to Malin Bridge would be in trouble if caught short as you can see into the cab from the body of the train, and it's all built up so no peeing on the street!
Anyone know how to book the cheaper inclusive tickets? Although the day I'm travelling on hasn't come on sale yet (the 13th July) I was playing around with the fortnight before to get an idea on price and it is only showing the standard advanced fare with a £30 supplement per passenger. How do I...
The other day I went on a bit of an explore through East and South London via the DLR, Overground and buses. Anyway was making my second DLR journey of the day which was Stratford to Lewisham & when I finished I tried to touch out but the machine just said "seek assistance", I tried several...
My only fear of TPE being subsumed into Northern is a return to the dreaded days of Northern Spirit. I'm still recovering from being shunted off a 158 to a Pacer at York on a run from Manchester to Newcastle. Say what you like about 185s but they are spacious compared to some trains on the...
