    Class 317 withdrawals.

No, none. If you want to ride Class 317's, this month is the time to fill your boots!

Class 222s - increasingly rough riding?

Desiro's are fine on vertically bumpy track, but are absolutely horrendously stiff on yaw. Really, hatefully bad on that. Awful to try and drink coffee or a read a paper (yes I know... who still does that later, right)? Electrostar far excels from a more compliantly damped yaw perspective...

    Class 317 withdrawals.

And after closing them, as always, it made no noticeable difference to the amount of cold drafts getting into the saloon

Class 379 updates (all are OFF LEASE)

There are more than 11 Class 317's available with GA. There are no Class 379's in traffic today, it's all Class 720 or Class 317 on West Anglia.

Class 365 scrap movements + preservation discussion

That certainly a pragmatic and practical way of look at it, for sure. Another would be a few track panels in the car park for the fourth vehicle, pending future developments. Once it's gone, it's gone. Quite. Plenty of good rolling stock going to waste at the moment, rather than cascading out...

    Alternative class 321 history

100% 321 operation on GE (rather than GA - there wouldn't have been enough to replace the 61 Cl.317's) But either way, it wouldn't have made any difference, imo: NX weren't interested at all investing in the fleet for a refurb during their franchise and then the Abellio franchises kept being...

    EMR Class 360's

Cambridge Sidings is the primary stabling location for Class 317's (and also takes 387's). It hasn't had a Carriage Wash since 2019 due to redevelopment works. Not ideal, but no other option and this will have impacted exterior cleanliness of both those fleets, to be fair. 1643991210 It's been...

Class 365 scrap movements + preservation discussion

I just don't get this... What even is the point of preserving 3 coaches of what have always been a 4 coach unit? What possible good reason if there for not adding a fourth vehicle (the extra driving vehicle).

Class 222s - increasingly rough riding?

Wholly incorrect for the Class 360s. There was absolutely no change to the maintenance carried out on the Class 360s as they neared the end of their time with GA. The maintenance spec stayed exactly the same, both at routine maintenance and heavy overhaul levels. The units had been in service...

Class 379 updates (all are OFF LEASE)

Indeed. When the Class 360's were bought to replace the Class 312's, they weren't what FGE actually wanted - FGE wanted more Class 321's (and Eversholt were keen to provide) but Silverlink wouldn't release them and the nomadic 322's weren't enough on their own, so they had no choice but to buy...

    Class 321 storage/scrapping

That! 1643981950 It's really frustrating that the doors on the Renatus units are that way. It absolutely did not need to be like that - there was a known fix that largely dealt with it and had been installed during the excellent Wolverton C6X, but was removed during the later Wabtec C6

    Class 321 storage/scrapping

Clacton celebrity was in inverted comma's... (Only of local celebrity/relevance to Clacton Depot). 321346 and 321424 Another particularly 'notable' unit that's already been scrapped (this one not to Clacton, more generally notable) is 321361 "Phoenix".

I need to know what is the specific name of the BREL headcodes

The single hinged unit with 3 luminaries (rectangular white marker light on outside, round Halogen headlight in the middle and round red tail light inside) was typically known as a "WIPAC light cluster". WIPAC is the manufacturer (still around and does non-rail stuff as well). The originals...

    Class 321 storage/scrapping

There is very little difference in them, condition-wise. They have all been looked after very well and maintained in comparable condition. Unlike the 317's for example, they have always had thorough body overhauls to keep them in great nick without terrible corrosion. The scrap criteria has...

    EMR Class 360's

Absolutely correct - in fact, on BR-era designed EMU stock, this is always the case (the 110v aux power is shared between units by default when they are coupled). A pan can be dropped on a coupled unit and the passengers wouldn't know the difference - lights/PA etc functions normally, just you...

    Class 317 withdrawals.

Re: the wrapping of a 317, I'd say it's more likely that they're trying it out on some rolling stock that doesn't matter, to prove the concept, rather than because they actually want to preserve the condition of a class 317 for future use...

Ex-LNER Mk4 sets for Grand Central (Blackpool - Euston)

They certainly did have a couple of particular reliability problems on WC in comparison to the 86's - ones that weren't solved until after they had all been transferred to the GE and decimated IC reliability there. Both of the biggest problems were only evident when in 'push' mode. Firstly...

Speculation: BR Class 442 - Northern Franchise

Oh yes, of course, I'd completely forgotten about the transformer etc... I will re-quote the sentence I was commenting on; Oh and look, there's this sentence too; And since the transformer and rectifier etc. etc. aren't mounted on the roof, then... Can you see how I actually...

Speculation: BR Class 442 - Northern Franchise

Correct, but that's a standard B+W High Speed pantograph (base frame is slightly modified TBH - it's narrower than the standard footprint, but big deal) doing exactly the same job as it would need to do. What you have there is all that's required to fit a pan to a Mk3 bodyshell (actually more...
