    Vivarail to develop battery 321

It's just a straight forward battery charger, picking up the current that's been stepped-down in voltage by the main transformer and then rectified to DC. The existing batteries don't feed much though - they are simply there for auxiliary supplies; The 110v train wires (control circuits)...

    Class 321 storage/scrapping

GA fleet has only ever been allocated to NC (15x/170/IC and now the Stadlers) or IL (720's and all 'legacy' EMU stock) - they're the only fleet allocation locations. Actual maintenance of the 321's is concentrated at CC, however.

Great British Railways - Competition for new location of GBR Headquarters

That ^^^^ HQ being somewhere doesn't necessarily mean it's the main back-office administrative hub, which can be anywhere. (In the same ways that there will still undoubtedly be regional HQ's, wherever the main HQ is notionally placed) Whole thing is a total PR stunt and inefficient farce in...

Great British Railways - Competition for new location of GBR Headquarters

That ^^^^ It's an absolutely ridiculous gimmick, asking public to vote on something on which they have absolutely no rational or practical knowledge, that affects the ongoing taxpayer spend for decades. And this is the government that says it's "efficient" and "the party of business"... What...

    Class 317 withdrawals.

They can't operate in Passenger service in multiple like that anymore. (Can still ECS together, but not Passenger service).

What is this? (Mod Note: Air suspension related)

Those speed restrictions vary by Stock type (and whether anyone has even reported that the secondary suspension is deflated in the first place!)

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Driver AND guard to prep a Mk4 rake? How have TfW talked themselves into that one? Sure, you need a Guard to operate a Mk4 rake in passenger service (as with any LHCS) but ECS and prep has always been Driver only.

    Class 317 withdrawals.

Will just have been used as a donkey for the test run, I expect. WA drivers don't sign 321/322's so they won't be appearing back on Stansted's anytime soon ;)

Exactly that. Mileage based rather than time (done at the same time as the bogies).

Class 379 updates (all are OFF LEASE)

Generally, people would rather have a narrow seat than no seat. 3+2 in itself doesn't need to mean awfully narrow seats/aisles. Class 720 is particularly not good in that regard though, because they're a longer coach than the 317/321/360/379 they replace. Longer coach within same loading gauge...

    Class 318 TBox

C6 or C6X in old money. They don't call it that these days though, because they've diverged so far from the content of the original overhaul specs.

Class 379 updates (all are OFF LEASE)

Although it is undeniably crap for the customers using the trains (who are, in the majority, also taxpayers!). Class 317's are noisy and draughty as hell, which (particularly relevant for this time of year) makes them freezing cold. Class 379 is a far superior train for the customers to be...

Class 379 updates (all are OFF LEASE)

You're forgetting who's in control of costs in the rail industry at the moment. Under the new rail operating contracts, costs are covered by DfT and changes to the operating budgets are determined by them. Treasury is very keen to limit costs. So don't assume GA are in the lead on all such...

Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

Yep. This was all done under HLOS. Originally the plan was to put new stock on Stansted to LST because that was seen as being a cash cow. During negotiations with the Gov't, political pressure time from Cambridge MP's about all new trains going on the south end of the route (cascading 'old...

Class 379 updates (all are OFF LEASE)

There's also a difference between 'withdrawn' and 'off lease'. Withdrawn *can* be returned to traffic with an operator. Only when the latter happens can they definitely not be.

Lumo (East Coast Trains) Class 803 Updates/Discussion

That's not necessarily the case. On old-skool BR era electric stock that would happen, because the APC control was specific/local to the vehicle that has the VCB/pan on (provided aux set and battery fuses not out etc) but it isn't necessarily the case on modern stock, because the VCB control...

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

I'm not the one who brought "All EMU's" into the thread :| LST-SNF customers might beg to differ.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Perfectly normal for industrial diesels, tbh. No driver of a BR-era EMU actually knows the pan has dropped though, tbf. Line light doesn't mean 'pan is up', it just means there's electrical power being fed to the unit from the normal traction supply. So; Line light could be out for various...
