    East Coast 20% Discount

I got a reply from East Coast today. It turns out there was a glitch with the East Coast website, so for a while everybody was getting the 20% discount! That would explain why the price didn't go down when I put the code in.

    East coast cancellations

That's a possibility, as when I was stuck behind the failed train just south of Berwick upon Tweed for 4+ hours in December, when we pulled into Newcastle there were loads of people on the platform waiting for the train and the guy who sat opposite me said they'd been waiting in the cold for...

    Enterprising staff

If food's "eaten in" though, I believe it is subject to VAT. However a small trader is unlikely to earn enough to have to be VAT registered. Additionally, to be allowed to trade on the train it's highly likely they'd be required to have the food hygiene certificates and liability insurance etc.

    Railway Myths

Myth 126 - People can always hear the onboard announcements perfectly above the sound of those around them continuing to talk.

    East Coast 20% Discount

It would appear the use of the discount code is restricted to certain accounts. You are prompted for the code when signing in to your online account, so I don't think it would work on any other WebTIS powered site. The price appeared to only have the 10% discount applied when I booked it. I...

Police to Increase Presence at Major London Stations

But I doubt there would ever be a situation where it would. Network Rail have said it's actually beneficial to allow enthusiasts on the station and to take photographs. It's an extra set of eyes and ears there for a long time. Also, if you're taking photos you might have something in your shot...

    London Terminals Underground Access

I think in order to travel on the tube in zone 1 you'd need a ticket to "London U1". That would give you a single journey on the tube. London Terminals gets you as far as the London Terminal. If you have a ticket between destinations which is valid via London, such as Reading - Peterborough, you...

    East Coast 20% Discount

I got an email from East Coast today offering me a 20% discount by way of apology for the weather related disruption, as well as telling me about Delay Repay. It says it's valid on Standard and First Advance tickets, however I only appear to have got the 10% online discount despite using the...

    FCC what train?

The last time I travelled the route (in early September), It's a bit hazy, but I'm pretty sure I had a 319 for all of the journeys I made between Bedford and London. I did see 377s operating to Bedford, but I'm pretty sure it was mostly 319s. Of course it was more than 3 months ago, so things...

The cost of station upgrades and refurbishments

What about if Network Rail charged TOCs a station access supplement in addition to the track access charges, based on the anticipated number of passengers from that TOC using the station? NR could then be contractually obliged to maintain the station and have some built in profitability for...

    East Coast Scuppered

Crikey, it seems even worse today then! I ended up getting into Stevenage at about 4.15 and was home by about 5.00. The information provided by East Coast yesterday wasn't always that up to date and it took 2 hours for information on the delays to appear on either the East Coast or the NRE...

    East Coast Scuppered

Just heading through Newark (02.41), the train is quite lightly loaded now, however in my experience, that's the norm for this service (when it runs to time). The ETAs on the NRE website do keep getting pushed back, but not by too much. I'll have to see what the state of play is when we go...

No London Midland Trains - 23rd Dec '10

Does anybody know if they're going to attempt to run a service on the Bedford-Bletchley line, or is that off as well?

Thanks, the GLC-KGX train was emptied at Alnmouth and we now have their passengers on our train. They were stuck on it for about 4 hours with no heating and only emergency lighting, which can't have been fun. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- We've just left York (at 1.40am) and...

Yeah, my ticket is only as far as Stevenage, so I'll have to get my dad to pick me up at 02:46 (he wouldn't leave me at the station, but I may have to compensate him with beer!)

Hopefully. We're currently waiting outside Alnmouth for everybody on the train in front to be offloaded for us to pick them up, so I assume they're planning to run this train through to Kings Cross, even if it is packed. Also, why did it take so long for the rescue locomotive to arrive, where...

    East Coast Scuppered

It wasn't the 1450 ABD - KGX that failed, it was the 225 in front of that which failed. I'm on the Aberdeen train and we sat at a red signal for ages then went to assist the failed train. We're currently running about 4 hours late. Edit: Looks like it was the 1550 GLC - KGX that failed. The...

    East Coast Scuppered

The latest announcement as we set off suggested we weren't coupled to the other train any longer. Also, does anybody know if the driver's going to be over his hours and what happens then? I understand there's some form of crew change at Newcastle, but not if that includes guard and driver as we...

    East Coast Scuppered

Especially seeing as it's about -6 outside according to my phone. Our train has heating and it's still a bit colder than is entirely comfortable.
