    SWT Advance Fares Bristol

Does anyone know what has happened to the South West Trains advance fares from Bristol? I have had a look on National Rail and there doesn't appear to be any available, even on the last day that is available from the menu. It's the same story with the SWT and GWR websites however, if I go on...

Which is your favourite and least favourite station announcer?

To me the "mind the gap" man thats now on the S-Stock (not sure about the 700s, I haven't been on one yet) sounds a lot like the guy that used to do the announcements on the class 458s

Trivia: Who operates your local station?

I put South West Trains as they operate my local station(s) when I'm back home. If I were to put my nearest station to where I'm staying when I'm at uni then it would be Network Rail (Bristol Temple Meads).

    Great Western Electrification Progress

Some were originally going to be electric only (with a small emergency diesel engine apparently) with some going to be bi-mode. However, I agree that info is a bit old now as it was June when it was changed to all of them being bi-modes.

Barbara Windsor to be heard over the rail Network

Didn't he do an announcement at Waterloo a few years ago talking about the charity "Samaritans"? I seem to remember it being quite ironic because I think that someone got hit by a train down the line at Earlsfield the same day.

FGW Random Cancelling of Trains- Greenford branch

I believe the advice (at least for the 1730 from West Ealing, I haven't checked the details on other one) is to get on the preceding 1715 (Maidenhead) train from Paddington (as opposed to the 1718) and change from that one to the Greenford train at West Ealing.

    GWR Class 800

I thought that they would be only be electronically limited to 100mph in diesel mode to reduce wear on the engine, so surely if there electrification is not completed sufficiently by then, they can just turn the limiter off until it is completed sufficiently?

    Leaf fall timetables

It's interesting that South West Trains now publish 'new' timetables for the leaf fall. Why don't they still do what they used to (and I believe still do for their big timetable book) and just have the relevant trains highlighted with how many minutes they are earlier when the leaf fall is on?

    Trivia: Direct train is slower

There are the xx39 Poole stopping trains from Waterloo that get overtaken by both the later xx05 and xx35 trains going to Weymouth. Going all the way to Poole for example getting the next xx35 train (nearly 1 hour later) would still get you to Poole 18 minutes faster.

    Fire on Train Caerphilly

Oh dear, not a good day for ATW then, with this and the earlier bridge fire. I wonder with that other unit stuck because of the bridge and now this unit damaged, would they now have a train shortage?

UK trains that have been exported to other countries.

There is the Gautrain trains, which whilst that specific design was not used in Britain as far as I know, were part of the Electrostar family with a number of cars manufactured in Derby with the rest apparently being made in South Africa with British parts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gautrain

    Hot weather and disruption

I don't know if it's been covered before but there seemed to be a lot of disruption yesterday and that was just looking just at GWR and South West Trains, with numerous signal problems and broken down trains. Today there seems to be more disruption on SWT with signal problems and a broken rail...

Face to face tables...a dying sight?

I don't see that working because as far as I'm aware, Crossrail will only take over the Heathrow Connect services and not Heathrow Express so it won't free up 4 paths an hour.

    Least useable station?

I think its not so much about the lack of services but more about the lack of anything nearby. There's the studios but I don't think there is much else there.

    Phil Sayer RIP

Very sad news indeed, the best announcer I've heard on the railways. Rest in peace Phil.
