If it's not scheduled to stop at Woking, then wouldn't it be one of the ones set to use the New Guildford line instead of the main line through Woking? If that's the case then couldn't it have stayed on the slow line once it joined the SWML near Surbiton?
Isn't that not much less than how long OLE equipment can last then?
Anyway, if they really do go for OLE for the North Downs line electrification, wouldn't the best thing to do to be to have a new OLE system all the way from Reading or Wokingham on the line but keep the existing 3rd rail in...
That's why it would surely be better to 3rd rail the North Downs Line, for continuity, rather than have a mish mash of 3rd rail and OLE. Surely it would be better to reduce the number of switchover points even if it means not using the best system, rather than slowing trains down with them...
I'm sure I saw replacement bus at Chessington South once (I think they were doing platform extensions) going to Worcester Park, something that would normally require changing at Motspur Park or walking from either Malden Manor or Motspur Park.
That would make sense, as I know that they did the Wimbledon points last year. Given the amount that was closed off I'm sure the work couldn't just have been there though and anyway I got a lift back from Byfleet and New Haw on Saturday (to avoid the buses) and as we were going past the cutting...
I was just wondering if I would be able to go to Shepperton instead of Walton with a Walton ticket, especially since when I looked they appeared to be the same price (£42 I think, going via London with my 16-25 railcard). However if it's not valid then I'll probably get my normal via Reading...
I looked earlier at coming back from Bristol this weekend only to find that there is large amount of engineering work this coming weekend in the SWT area.
I was wondering if I would be able to use a via London return ticket to Walton-on-Thames (coming back when there isn't all this work) to go...
I could be wrong but I'm sure someone said either earlier in this thread or in another one that the Greenford trains will start terminating at West Ealing soon in preparation for Crossrail and these Hayes and Harlington trains will take the paths of the Greenford trains until Crossrail starts.
Completely agree, I'm not anti-monarchy but making it sound like another tube line when in fact it will technically be a National Rail "mainline" service seems a bit silly.
Does anyone know if class 313s (or the same height 507/508s) would have the clearance for the Ryde tunnel? The 313s fit down the Northern City Line and the 507s and 508s have to fit in the Merseyrail tunnels.
I think I saw a 450 that said "DAZZLER" on it last christmas. As for the 158/159s, I'm sure I saw one of those that said "Kyle of Lochalsh" on it despite the fact it was in completely the wrong area, going in the wrong direction. I think it was going to Yeovil or somewhere like that.
I really hope that Stagecoach retain it. Having a semi-regular experience on both the Stagecoach run SWT and the FirstGroup run GWR, I would say that SWT is far better, especially when it comes to punctuality. As a side note, I believe today was the 20th anniversary of SWT.
There are automatic barriers but there are staff there as well (at least when there barriers are closed). I don't know about getting a platform ticket or whether the staff would be happy to let you through the barrier if you aren't travelling.
I'm sure there's a reasonable possibility of that happening at Basingstoke (although I'm not sure if it has happened before). Quite often the stopping train from Waterloo arrives on platform 1, stops there for a minute or two to let everyone off and then moves into a siding up the line to make...
One thing I would like to see more off (and this especially goes for Virgin Trains (West Coast) since I don't think they do this any more) is more named trains. I don't mean more specific units/locomotives that are named, I mean more train services that are named (e.g. Flying Scotsman, Golden...
