Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

I agree to an extent however I think that no matter how well it is marketed it'll still be seen as linking two places which are already well connected which just isn't as attractive to the public as something which links new places, even if the capacity improvements are important.

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

East West Rail is planned to be a conventional line which will have intermediate stations giving local people along the route access to it, something HS2 won't do directly even if it does improve the service on lines that are relatively close. In addition, EWR does something new by giving access...

Class 378's to be shortened to 4 cars and used on GOBLIN?

Looking at the timetable it now seems that all the LO WLL trains continue through to Stratford, so wouldn't it be a good idea to cut half of them back to Willesden Junction like they used to?

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

I agree and don't forget that there are quite a few people who live closer to an airport than they do to Euston and thats just relatively close to London, there's also the people that live much closer to the likes of Southampton, Bristol, Exeter etc airports and if HS2 means CrossCountry...

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

I agree with a fair bit of that, I can just see the cost going up from the already expensive £50bn (they're talking about it already) and I can see them putting the fares up too high for most people, so people will still use existing trains as they'll be cheaper and so you'll end up with...

    South West Trains 2006 Timetables

I've got an SWT timetable book for May-December 2007 (before the changes). I can scan some pages in later if people want, but at a glance the Brockenhurst-Wareham stoppers left Brockenhurst at 16 past the hour and took 56 minutes. In the other direction they left Wareham at 59 past the hour and...

‘Sexist’ message on Cross Country train screen

Spot on. It seems these days just saying something is worse than actually doing anything serious

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

If you get a VTEC train then you should be ok as long as there aren't any problems specific to that line

Remaining Great Northern services post Thameslink to be rolled into London Overground and LNER?

Why? Same goes for transferring the Moorgate services to TfL, what exactly would it achieve other than some TfL branding? Some of these services go way outside the Greater London area anyway

    Heathrow Express GWR Contract

I doubt it, as far as I can tell, they'll still be Heathrow Express branded and Heathrow airport will still have control over the fares.

The Sunday Times: 'Ironing board' seats

Wouldn't a better idea be to divide them along subclass lines. Since the complaints seem to suggest the seating and layout is more based around being a 'metro' type service couldn't they leave the 700/0s (8-car) as they are since they'll mainly be operating the shorter more 'metro' and stopping...

Allegations of "bullying, intimidation and harassment" at SWR depot

I have to disagree here, there are plenty of people for which zero hours, etc, suits them quite well and getting rid of them would actually make things more difficult for them.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I have a feeling infobleep was referring to the peak fast Woking stoppers (an oxymoron I know) which are currently class 450 operated and I would say that they will continue to be 450s. Unless I've calculated it wrong, the new 701s don't really provide any increase in the number of carriages...

    Derailment at Wimbledon 6/11/17

I don't know about East Putney but removing the one at Putney Bridge was probably because it was too short. As far as I know, it was only long enough of C Stock when it was in use and D Stock was too long. Now that all the C Stock (and D Stock for that matter) is gone, I should think that the...

    Votes for 16

I think there are a lot of young people who are like sheep and will vote for Labour and Corbyn because he's "cool", everyone else is voting for him and as Up_Tilt_390 says, young people can be naive and impressionable. However, I think that Alan Sugar was spot on when he said that they "didn't...

    GWR Class 800

This video (not mine) shows it in use a few times (such as around 4m26s and 13m15s). Listening to it, I'm not sure who it is but she sounds infinitely better than that awful Faye on some other GWR onboard announcements.

Infrastructure that will never be used again

If that's the flyover near Waterloo then it hasn't been abandoned as some Southeastern trains used to access Waterloo at the end of August and are planned to again around Christmas time
