EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

I agree. Does Central Rivers have any capacity available to perhaps maintain some 222s under a subcontract too? It’s only down the road, and they seem to be doing a great job with the Lumo 222s. They constantly get 3/3 in service, with only 2 mishaps so far resulting in cancelled services...

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

I’m really hoping this is the lowest of the low right now, and things can only get better. The temporary timetable at least gives some certainty - hopefully half functioning units are no longer hastily sent out, only to fail during the day.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

The reduced timetable is basically the removal of 5 222 diagrams, needing only 12 to be covered instead of 17. The only weekday northbound double set will now be the 1602 Sheffield! I’ve also noticed the 1902 Sheffield is short formed, and the 1932 Sheffield is cancelled. That’ll be fun!

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

It says in the SR press release that they expect to have 6 222s by 'early 2027' specifically for driver training. Not an impossible amount to achieve, seeing as they technically already have one (222104). 1783428564 Indeed, currently running with 3/3 availability, no problems at all!

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

222008/222016/222021/810022 all failed today, and it's only 4pm, plenty time for extra failures later... Currently the service requires 17/21 222s (although 222011 is having damage repair and hasn't worked since May), and 6/12 810s in service.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

222016 has failed today too. Shame as service started with all diagrams covered over 222/810s.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Yes, 222013 also failed on Monday too. I had it from Sheffield beforehand, and it had multiple issues, including 2 engine failures. 1783292177 Just checked and it also failed on Wednesday and Thursday too!

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Indeed, an emergency timetable might give a chance to catch up on maintenance. It's been another bad day today, with 222006/222013/222103 (and 810022) all failing.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Really not a great day again. 12/17 222s in service, and 5/6 810s (if 810022 comes out later). Meanwhile Lumo are using all 3 of their available 222s today, no problem at all!

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Usually problems with doors - the latest delivery (810022) has apparently had mods, and it hasn't failed yet, so hopefully things will get better. There are currently 6/6 810 diagrams covered today, and 14/17 222 diagrams, which is certainly better than yesterday.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Seems reliability has sunk to a new low, with only 11 222s in service as I type (it should be 17). There are also only 4 810s in service at the moment too, resulting in many cancellations, especially on the Nottingham route.

222 contract for Scotrail: updates (not speculation)

I imagine after it's done there is a level of exam that has to be completed on the whole unit, to align the maintenance schedules of each coach. It could perhaps be it wasn't worth doing anything, as it's going to be taken apart at Widnes anyway. The inserted coach could have also needed an exam...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Indeed, 6x 222s have been stopped so far 001-005 + 104, but there are 6x 810 diagrams currently in operation daily. The problem is down to reliability with both the 810s and 222s.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Didn’t know that was supposed to be an 810 - does anybody know the last date when all diagrams were successfully completed?

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Unfortunately the 0700 SHF-STP was started at Derby today, due to a train fault of course. No 810s were pulled from service on Sunday (although only 4 out), which I believe is the first day in a fair few weeks.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

810006 has also failed at Leicester on 1350 Nottingham - London. 10 units available, 6 making it into service, and then 2 failing is pretty poor. Has there actually been a day in recent weeks where at least one hasn't failed?

Hitachi Factory - First Group order 14 new trains with options for 13 more

I suppose it is possible that they could take from the order already made. 14 trains is a lot, and it's always puzzled me how they'd be allocated out, as I believe the Carmarthen service will only need around 5 sets. That leaves 9 for 'extra capacity'. Unless they start doubling up a lot of...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

The whole situation is quite disappointing. It's getting to the point where I'm starting to actively avoid the MML, as I just can't trust it at the moment. Such a fall from where it was a few years ago, when 222s won Golden Spanners, and the service was very reliable.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

They're trying again with 011, starting the 1502 STP-SHF at Derby. I've also noticed 810006 is out on training runs today, having not been out since 30/04, when it suffered fatality damage - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C88294/2026-06-09/detailed

First Rail Stirling (Lumo) Rolling Stock

Was always going to be a big ask wasn’t it - 603 looks like it will be ready shortly thankfully.
