First Rail Stirling (Lumo) Rolling Stock

Seems all is not well today. Both services cancelled due to traction failure, and 222601 off to Central Rivers, presumably for repair - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:78880/2026-05-29/detailed

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Another day, another two failed 222s - 222009 and 222012 today.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

810013 failed this morning on 0700 off Sheffield, looks like it's being replaced with 810010. Apart from that, all 5 810 diagrams covered today, and all 222 diagrams covered too!

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Yes, the only exception is the one diagram that's been suspended since around September, this would provide another unit to allow 0630 SHF-STP, and 1732 STP-SHF to operate as a double.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Two sets (011 and 103) were unfortunately involved in fatalities on Sunday/Monday, and they haven't returned to service since. So that will definitely be having a short term impact.

222 contract for Scotrail: updates (not speculation)

They were perfectly reliable (even winning multiple golden spanners) until a year or so ago, when Hitachi took over maintenance. They are very reliable trains if looked after - it also sounds like they'll receive a full overhaul before entering service with ScotRail, which should help reverse...

222 contract for Scotrail: updates (not speculation)

Fully agree there, MK3s tend to lurch about. I suppose it depends what you’re looking for. I’d say 221s are the best ride quality you can get at the moment. Anyway, it does make me wonder what will happen to the 3 ‘spare’ coaches. Stored for potential future use, or disposed of?

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

008 seems to be coming out later at least - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:Y12273/2026-03-19/detailed

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

I do find it quite odd it's as soon as 01/04 - especially as lots of reservations will have already been issued for after this day. Until May there will only be 5 diagrams 810s can operate on (due to lack of 10 car running), and these diagrams already have reservations suspended. Part of me...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Not yet, only 006, 010, 011, 012, & 013 have ran passenger trains so far.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Short form on 1735 now, that was showing as fully formed this morning.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

I'd imagine 014 would need to be commissioned first

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Probably become the depot ‘Christmas tree’, like what happened with 222005 last year. It didn’t work from June - September.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

I noticed one diagram seems to differ when the ECML closure is on.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Seems to be the usual way, they’ll fail during the day, terminate / go ECS to Etches, and then come back out later. This insinuates the issues are possibly quick fixes, that maybe one day could be fixed while out and about.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

When turning around, 222s shut down all but one engine, but they’re all fired up again 10 or so minutes before departure. Given the short turnarounds, and multiple trains, this still gives a bad atmosphere. 810s are also fitted with a similar system, where 2/4 engines shut down when turning...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Both 006 and 011 returned to service. Shows the faults must be relatively simple to resolve.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Saw this first hand with the 1000 on Saturday, the poor guy on the platform was having a proper meltdown!
  19. 222001

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

At least 2, as 222002/003 have departed since the last 810 arrived.
  20. 222001

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Things should hopefully settle down once the next couple of 810s arrive (in the next few weeks?), as long as no further 222s are stopped!
