Examples Where Projects Could Have Delivered Significantly More Without Spending More Than "5%" More

Not sure how much Crossrail to Tring would cost. Certainly not a lot of track needed!

If 20% of train services are to be cut due to the change in usage patterns, what would you cut?

I guess the Waterloo - Poole stoppers could go, redistribute the stops between the 2 Weymouth fasts. Add Fleet to the Portsmouth Via Basingstoke Service. Great Northern could terminate at Huntingdon and have hourly LNER stops from there to Peterborough There could be extra stops on the...

If 20% of train services are to be cut due to the change in usage patterns, what would you cut?

The Dalston Junction - New Cross route can go - always empty even pre covid Maybe get rid of London bridge - beckenham junction. Only really affects birkbeck which has trams as well. Or run as a portion of the Sutton service, splitting at Crystal palace. On avanti I guess the Blackpool services...

Trivia: Stations that sound nice but really aren't

I was expecting a nicer area when I went to St Mary Cray, it's really just an overspill estate.

    Most circuitous bus route

London Buses 358 from Orpington to Crystal Palace is pretty indirect, going via Green Street Green and Farnborough to get to Bromley, then via Eden Park and Elmers End to get to Beckenham. 227 from Bromley - Crystal Palace goes down a straight road really!

In your opinion - which TOC has been the most experimental and why?

They did do a coach connection to Oban from Crianlarich, not sure if that is coming back. I suppose they could extend the Fort William service to Mallaig and the Aberdeen service to Inverness, but no doubt it would only increase the losses!

Trivia: Competing TOCs that serve the same route

New Cross Gate - West Croydon /Crystal Palace. Southern or Tfl. Also from London Bridge with change at Canada Water on tfl.

Trivia - PIS Displays: Quietest Station With, Busiest Station Without

Maybe the quietest with PIS is somewhere on the West Highland Line, maybe Ardlui ? Not sure if the stations past Crianlarich / Fort William have PIS ?

    Historical Metropolitan Service Pattern

Chicago - LA must be one of the longest. 2 days on the Southwest Chief or 3 days on the Texas Eagle!

Rail services from Brighton in the 'new normal'

To be honest the Gatwick Express trains seemed to be empty most of the time anyway whenever I saw them going south early in the morning pre covid, there is not enough to differentiate them from the rest of the service. Everyone was on the thameslink or littlehampton / Eastbourne trains and...

Southern - London Victoria to Billingshurst - no advance fares on Saturdays

Sometimes it is cheaper to use contactless to East Croydon and buy a ticket from there to Billingshurst. Need to touch out at East Croydon though.

Lines with significant counter peak flows

As a resident of Forest Hill, I always thought Canada Water would be a strange place to change for Central London, but it actually is just as quick as going to London Bridge, less walking and cheaper too.

Lines with significant counter peak flows

Waterloo - Reading counter peak stoppers were always full and standing pre covid. Many business parks on the line!

Trivia: Smallest towns with more than one station

There is the big welly truck stop at Tyndrum with an outdoor clothes shop, also a couple of other cafes. So worth having a station there as might attract a few tourists.
