Trouble is now also it's the kids holidays and the bulk of families will be Blackpool headed which they can't reach. I'm sure the Chorley shuttle must fill up by Bolton but sounds like 4 car would be adequate then they could use the spare to strengthen services to the seaside
.
I bet The Blackpool South services are busier than normal being a diagram down to Blackpool North.. Some days over the holidays are going to be chaotic to say the least!
Yes, sounds like heading to the seaside with the kids will be quite an experience for some these next 4 weeks, and in this intense heat I can't think of anything more uncomfortable than being squashed into a crush loaded 142 or 150!
I was stood next to a couple a week or so back on Preston station who were complaining about the lack of carriages heading to Blackpool and almost every unit being a 2-car DMU. Some of the York 158's can be 3-car but you can't guarantee it. Alot of them do seem to leave Preston full and...
I can swear I saw a 142 last week in the bay platforms at Lancaster working the evening Millom diagram, didn't know it was permanent though! God help those brave souls on board if it gets windy around Avalanche Alley on the Coast workings!
Some sets from Cumbrian Coast can also see...
Exactly! More Pacers for Cleethorpes I say, then they can match West Coast resorts like Southport that already suffer a 142 plague!!:wink: In fact if Northern took over where TPE left, you just cannot rule out a 142 appearance at Cleethorpes..
Yes, it used to be 4 tracks between Crescent & Central upto the early 90's. I'm hoping any new platforms at Central are made totally flexible so trains from any direction are able to access. I had to chuckle thinking it'll almost be a replacement for Manchester Exchange when finished - indeed...
I've noticed from a pic someone put on Skyscraper City Forum that the old Exchange station footbridge is now history - possibly the final remnant of Exchange to be demolished..
It'll be interesting to see how the section from Chorley - Lostock copes with just an hourly service, when most people at these stations bar Adlington & Blackrod are used to upto 3 trains per hour.. Chorley & Horwich Parkway probably even pitch at 4 trains per hour at peak hours of the day?
It would be interesting to see if Liverpool got an hourly Scottish service to combine with a Manchester portion at Wigan North Western, then every EMU service would be at least 8 coaches North of Wigan. Thereagain it could be just a handful from Liverpool, we'll have to see how it maps out, if...
