Therein lies the problem. The only local stoppers on that line go to Bradford and Halifax. Nothing up the Aire or Wharfe Valleys, or to Harrogate, Huddersfield, Wakefield or Castleford etc.
The 38 came up from Kirkstall up Cockshott Lane, then down Armley Road and up Armley Ridge Road, then along Wortley Road and left onto Whingate and through Whingate Junction and off to Lower Wortley, so it very much served Armley. The fishing tackle shop was run by Mr Shaw. I was in the same...
The 86 still runs from Rodley to Middleton via Bramley, Armley, Holbeck and Beeston. 38 is sorely missed on West Leeds and would really be useful if it was brought back once the White Rose railway station is opened.
The best thing they could do is build the HS2 station as planned. At least everything that currently comes in via Woodlesford can use it until they eventually get HS2 sorted in decades to come.
Has any consideration ever been given to replacing the 2 existing stations with just the one? It seems to me that by moving the platforms to the East of the current Garforth station to near Bar Lane, you could still use the existing station car park. You could then put a new walkway in on the...
I think Northern should do what Scotrail have done and put them to use as cycle/luggage coaches on the S&C, Newcastle - Carlisle, and Middlesbrough - Whitby. This would free up seats on the other units and encourage moire people to take bikes to the touristy areas.
Maybe they should put a 3rd track in to act as a slow line all the way from Huddersfield to Diggle. This would of course mean re-opening one of the single bores at Standedge, but this this would take the Manchester bound stoppers off the mainline for a considerable distance.
Can I just ask if the speed restriction of 30mph is still in place? If so, how long has it been in place, what is the reason for the restriction, and what would need to be done to increase it if the Leeds - Bradford electrification goes ahead. Thanks in advance.
I would like to see the current Hull – Halifax extended to Manchester, but run fast from Halifax. I would also change the existing Leeds – Dewsbury – Brighouse – Manchester stopper to operate to Preston instead to give Leeds 2 trains an hour to Burnley, Blackburn and Preston. Walsden could be...
Maybe they should go ahead and build the HS2 station in Leeds as it was meant to be. You can then have fast lines heading out past Woodlesford, Normanton (remodelled), Wakefield Kirkgate (remodelled) and then straight across to meet up with the new TPU alignment at Thornhill LNWR Jcn. If you...
I was wondering if there have ever been any discussions relating to the possibility of a brand new interchange station for Wakefield?
My idea would be for a new low level/high level/triangular station in the middle of the triangle of lines West of Kirkgate and South of Westgate (ie a weird...
How about a new tunnel North of Batley to the East of the current Morley tunnel that comes out straight at the North end which would solve the slow PSR through Morley station (which would also create passing loops in the process)?
I don't think Interchange can handle 10 car trains either. I seem to remember seeing 2 Grand Centrals in the platform and the rear one was 1 coach off the end of the platform. They could of course extend the platforms.
