What is the purpose of Bradford to Leeds electrification?

If Leeds to Hull gets electrified, I can see the Halifax - Hull starting from Interchange instead in which case it can be done by an EMU. I also wonder if LNER would switch to Interchange being able to run electric all the way. If Leeds to Interchange became a self enclosed service with no...

How feasible would it be to reopen the old Midland line from Swinton to Normanton and onto Leeds?

How feasible would it be to reopen the old Midland line from Swinton to Normanton and onto Leeds? Can't see much in the way of obstacles other than a big trading estate at the South End and I always understood this to be a fast liine.

Publication of Integrated Rail Plan for the North and Midlands

Not getting how electrifying Leeds – New Pudsey – Bradford is going to work. Every train that works on this route is going to either York or Hull in the East and Halifax, Manchester, Chester or Blackpool in the West. None of the lines to the West are being electrified so presumably they must be...

Publication of Integrated Rail Plan for the North and Midlands

Just heard him say Warrington to Marsden. Electrification cannot deliver Leeds to Bradford in 12 minutes. Track speeds will just not allow it.

Publication of Integrated Rail Plan for the North and Midlands

Just quoted Bradford to Leeds in 12 minutes. NPR must be coming through Bradford then.

HS2 rail extension to Leeds set to be scrapped

If they really want to speed up Leeds to London, stop making every train (bar the 1A07 at 07:00) stop at at least 4 intermediate stops en route. Just have 1 train an hour that stops at Wakefield, Doncaster, Peterborough and Stevenage and make the other non-stop. Leeds - Wakefield is adequately...

    Leeds Trams. Again.

You would think that the redundant Spen Valley track beds could prove useful in any such mass transit scheme. 1637137043 How about a circular Leeds – Bradford Tram-Train route. Leeds Centre to Wellington Street, then out round the back of the Wellington Road round-house, then on fixed rail from...

Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) - Latest plans & speculation

So if this does get going and TBMs get to work, where would they most likely set up constructions compounds and waste handling? I know that they have Calvert and Willesden for HS2 purposes.

How could reliability of the Airedale and Wharfedale lines be improved?

Armley Moor on the Bradford line would be better. The old derelict factory next to is needs flattening in any case. Plus, the No 4 and 16 buses are shocking. A new park-and-ride at High Royds woulnd't go amiss. Traffic through Guiseley is horrendous.

Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) - Latest plans & speculation

So if HS2 isn't happening, they may as well get on with sorting out Leeds to Church Fenton, ie 4 tracking from Selby Road to Thorpe Park and electrification.

How could reliability of the Airedale and Wharfedale lines be improved?

I would reinstate a third bi-directional track between Rodley and Dockfield Jcn using the redundant alignment and Thackley Tunnel. This would help with getting freight off the mainline and may help with pathing (I hope).

HS2 rail extension to Leeds set to be scrapped

If HS2E has been axed, then instead of mucking about with 2 half-baked schemes between Leeds and Sheffield and East Midlands and Birmingham, they may as well plough the brass into a full upgrade of the ECML. Build a new viaduct and tunnels to quadrify Digswell to Woolmer Green, four track...

Ideas for more services like Lumo on the UK rail network?

I must admit, I can get to Horsforth in the same time as Guiseley, so yes I concede you point with regards to stations that are reasonably close together. Ilkley is not too far off either.

Ideas for more services like Lumo on the UK rail network?

Fair point. Maybe a non-stop Leeds - London instead, perhaps St Pancras.

Ideas for more services like Lumo on the UK rail network?

There are no LNER extensions on the Wharfedale line sadly. If Horsforth, Shipley, Low Moor, Brighouse and Mirfield have direct services, then I don't see why Ilkley and Guiseley can't have too.

Why do Network Rail still use some imperial measurements?

Next we will be suggesting that horse racing does away with furlongs and the 10,000 Guineas. Mile and chains forever!!

Ideas for more services like Lumo on the UK rail network?

A once a day Wharfedale - Kings Cross and return service. Ilkley - Burley-in-Wharfedale - Menston - Guiseley - Garforth - Kings Cross. Would not impact on current Leeds - Kings Cross passenger flows.

My idea should 175s transfer to Northern in Dec 2022

..or transfer them to Neville Hill to work on the Halifax - Hull, York to Hull/Bridlington and Leeds to Sheffield services. The 155's could go them and 150's could then be released to be doubled up on other services.

Should drivers instruct passengers to head to the rear of the train in the event of an impending collision?

It surely depends on how long the driver has got to think. You could go round a corner and see a landslide and you might not even have 10 seconds to think never mind pressing the PA button.

Opportunities to improve service provision through/to Castleford

It would of course open up the possibility of running some York – Castleford - Leeds trains at rush hour which would give Sherburn a direct service to Leeds for the first time.
