47826 - is RAIL magazine correct?

Having just bought RAIL magazine to read Peter's Sleeper article, I noticed a report on page 29 that says West Coast's 47 826 hauled its first passenger train in two years on 3rd March (Statesman Rail to Fort William), its last passenger working being on 10/4/10 with a Sheffield to Glasgow...

Cal Sleeper coach in siding near Shap Summit

On a trip between Oxenholme and Carlisle today I saw a single Caledonian Sleeper coach in a siding just south of Shap Summit. I thought all the Sleepers were in regular use. Can anyone shed any light as to why it's there?

Couple of shots of today's double-header over the Settle & Carlisle. Locations south of Appleby were obliterated by mist until the last minute, so we had to settle for a station shot at Kirkby Stephen. Locos are 44871 piloting 45407. Headboard reads The Waverley.

    More trespassers - Rannoch Viaduct

Following on from the other thread on trespassing, imagine my horror when I saw this couple out for a stroll over Rannoch Viaduct last year. They appeared off the moor at the north end of the viaduct, walked its full length then continued along the embankment to the station. I was set up with...

    NXEA full breakfast

Is the NXEA "proper" breakfast still being served in First Class on the 1000 London Liverpool Street to Norwich? It's not advertised very well, if it is! Has anyone sampled it recently? I'm looking to return from London at 0930 but will hang around till 1000 if the breakfast's on offer.

    ToD machines: turning midnight

Last night I was collecting pre-bought tickets from a TVM machine. Whilst they were printing the machine flashed up a message, something like "out of use, use next machine". After a few seconds it returned to normal. I checked my tickets and fortunately they had all printed except for the...

    Google ads

Does anyone else find the Google ads slowing their system down? They seem to be getting more and more complex and taking longer to load. They've caused my computer to hang up on several occasions and it's a fast machine with a lot of memory. It's not just on this site, it's on Yahoo email as...

Disparity in ticket prices between Virgin and other web sites

I am about to book a journey in 1st Class from Euston to Preston so decided to compare Virgin and East Coast web sites to see if the fares match. Lo and behold, they don't. For example: Tuesday 26 July: 0730 and 0830 departures, and all departures from 1630 to 1930, best advance prices...

    Summer Saturdays at Great Yarmouth

... aren't what they used to be, especially when the drags are cancelled. Instead I had to make do with a '170' replacement (Reedham branch) and a '156' (Acle branch).

    Graham Norton Show guests

I'm going to sound like a grumpy old git but Graham Norton has just had 5 guests on and not one of them I'd heard of before. Does anyone else agree with me that his guest list is usually a bit rubbish? (The red chair is the only bit worth watching)
